How do you carry 12' or longer lumber with the 5' bed on the Ranger?

One bumper step sale CANCELLED!!!!!
Nooooo! If you cancel, I'll have to buy 2 dampers to make it up to Dave.....
Maybe I can adapt one to become a glovebox damper or a console lid damper....
Besides, it's your fault...you brought up my towing campers for many years, and it brought back long hidden memories....

Jay, your not wrong, but I deleted my response to you because...
I have had many pick ups in the past and towed with them. But it's been many years since I towed a trailer due to motor home ownership.
One thing I wish had been available back then, was a damper, because...
Travel trailers have that crank down/electric powered post at the front of the trailer frame, and many stick up so far that it is inevitable that if the gate slips it will come down on that post. Just depends on how far up the post is mounted and how close it is to the rear of the truck.
Thinking about it a damper would, if the gate slips, lower it slow enough that I could probably catch it.
I have seen many dents on tailgates just because of this happening, so the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward "wussing up" and getting one, if only for that one reason. May never, ever happen to me, but it only takes one time to put a good size dent in that aluminum gate.
I will now go to the "time out" corner, and hang my head in shame...
I will probably get "damperized".
With a TGD it moves so slow it probably won't dent even if it hits.

If it were me, I'd install an auto-tailgate-closer on the Jack top with no TGD, any of these models should do ;)

wow you girls with the weak slimy fingers that let a little light tailgate get away from you are keeping Dave from the poor house. Is it legal for a moderator to blatantly commercialize this web site. :sunglasses:

Think nothing of it Dave...
There's only 11,938 members. Figure half that # either have a damper, don't know about the damper, or don't want a damper.
That leaves only around 6000 or so that you have to send out.....:handsinair:
AND...if you split for expedited shipping, we can have em before Christmas !!!!!!!!!

Just came across this thread because I was wondering how I was going to get all my 12' lumber home that I need.

But then it dawned on me... I'm cutting it all for a project, so I will bring my saw and just cut it in the parking lot until it all fits in the bed! ? Deck boards for stair treads, and 12' pieces cut into 4' sections, etc.

I have a pickup bed hitch extender I’ve used for years (my 2012 Tacoma and now my 21’Tremor). use to carry two 12 foot kayaks. Easy easy and cheap (relatively cheap, I think I paid $65 on eBay). Great solution. still offered on eBay.

Both the Lowe's and Home Depot's in my area have a large table saw in the lumber department for you to use for cutting your purchases to size.

Ford should have put tailgate operation in the owners manual for the car peeps who have never done it and need help. I am sure that Ford engineers tested tailgate operation thousands of times. But, maybe they never fathomed that it would be such a problem for some peeps with such a light tailgate. :giggle:
They can put it in the section of the manual that reminds people not to drink any of the fluids contained in the the components and systems of the vehicle.
