Glad everyone is ok. That must have been a hard hit!

I've been rear-ended a bunch of times but since I always drove trucks I had almost no damage. Either this person must of been really hauling or the back half of the Ranger is some real tin-foil.

I had a car completely destroy the front end, steaming coolant and leaking oil, and I had no damage to my old Tacoma other then a little crater in the bumper.

I'm going to echo the sentiment everyone else seems to have. I'm glad your family is safe! And I wouldn't be too hopefull on keeping that truck. There is going to be bodywork required for the rear of the cab. The bed is pretty screwed most likely, even though it doesn't look bad, and will require work. Between the labor and parts availability, I'd bet it's a write-off. Best of luck to you with it!

I got rear ended in New Orleans in 1978, and the insurance company said if the cab is bent from the collision it’s a total.

1978!!!!!?????? I was -2 years old!

I know rear of cab damage is finicky because you can't just pull a body panel off and replace it, and anything invasive means structural integrity is compromised. Ouch!!!!!

My wife's 2019 Ranger (with factory trailer hitch) was rear ended by a Florida Highway Patrol car and looked better than yours. Ours was totaled because the frame was tweeked slightly. How do you know your frame is ok? Has it been checked by someone professionally?

Very glad your wife is ok! As for the truck, it can be repaired easily. Find a quality body shop in your area, and they will take good care of you. If you need help finding one, call your insurance company and ask them which shops they use near you. If your insurance company has a direct repair deal with a body shop near you, it means they trust their work, and they can help you if you do have any issues.
And as far as totaling vehicles to repair and resell them, insurance companies are not in the repair business. They will only sell the vehicle off for parts.
I was rear ended in a 97 Dodge Dakota once and the bed damaged my cab corner too. At the time I worked in the body shop of a Ford dealer, and had one of the techs put my truck on the frame machine to make sure it was ok, all of the measurements were dead on, so it did not bend my frame at all.
