Ok, I posted a thread in Off Topic about tents, but after talking to my group we decided on getting a trailer. the only one i can afford ATM is a 6x12 so space will be tight for 4-5 people. VERY tight, I understand this. (I am the only one able to provide consistent payment on a major item, the rest of the outfit the rest of the group will be outfitting the trailer, in short, im providing the shelter they are outfitting.) I do plan on adding a couple of deep cycle batteries for lights/phone charging and the like so we can make sure we have essential power.

My question and request actually is, can anyone provide some good pictures/layouts of what they have done to maximize space in a limited environment. I plan on making everything either fold and latch on the wall (only concern is weight on the beds as some of us are some big bois lol) or just foldable furniture in general.

ALSO. for you DIY folks, What tips do you have for the needs/wants we have listed? We do have around an 8000W generator (per my dad, i need to confirm that) for power when plug in power isnt avail.

Needs
1. lights
2. AC/Heat
3. Outlets for Coffee pot (IF campfire is not doable. IE Rain storms), charging radios, lights, phones, etc.
4. Be able to switch from generator power to electric grid power as the situation needs
5. AC during the summer.
6. Storage for clothing/gear (though this COULD be kept in the vehicles, it would be better if we could wrangle this into the trailer) we are not opposed to either option.

Wants
1. TV (not cable, I have movies and such, just some night time entertainment before bed)
2. Microwave (see above for coffee pot), I know this one may not be feasible
3. Fridge. A smaller fridge, half sized just to keep meat and such in. Other items we would use a cooler/ice and i am open to propane fridges

I plan on putting in a breaker box with several circuits, 1 for general outlets, 1 for 12v charging, 1 for ac, 1 for TV (not needed but if we need to turn it off we have the opportunity if need be), and some space to grow as we deem fit.

So my first question is how do i get power from a genie AND/OR power pole to the interior while being safe?
2nd question is what ideas do yall have for layouts? there are 2 doors, 1 on the right side (passenger) and one drop down on the rear. I will post pictures once i actually get a trailer but for now just looking for ideas and suggestions. I do plan on getting a V nose trailer if that matters.

If you do an internet search for "cargo trailer camper," you'll see a lot of ideas to incorporate into your own. Factory-built travel trailers (with a few exceptions) are very poorly built. With some thought, and a few tools, you can build something that works and save a lot of money.

8000 watts is a very large and heavy (400 lbs?) generator. This is the size you generally find in 40-foot motorhomes with two air conditioners and residential kitchen appliances. 2000-3000 is likely plenty good, and many get by with 1000 watts or none at all.

Here's a 144 sprinter van conversion we are working on in the shop. It has very limited space. 12v air conditioner and diesel burner for heat. Big solar panel on roof rack. And it has 280 amp aux alt. No generator

Man I'm just north of Nashville but this kinda what I do for a living. mainly tour buses but some Rv and conversions to Van's and trailers. Feel free to hit me up with any questions. I would love to help source parts as well. Blue Sea makes some really good solutions for power and an inverter / charger is going to be your biggest expense and head ache haha. DONT BUY AN OUTBACK INVERTER sorry for yelling but these things suck. Neutral relays blow like a hooker at a truck stop. I like Magnum power if going with agm batteries and Victron if you splurge for lithium. Good luck.

Craigslist has frequent travel trailer deals in your price range. $4 to 8k. Maybe watch that with some frequency. This way, most all of your features will come in an integrated package and it may be alot more comfy in the long run. Here is an example...

https://goldcountry.craigslist.org/tro/d/somerset-1986-prowler-travel-trailer/7308532487.html

Your project does sound cool.. Heavy duty, spartan, and stealthly..

Good luck man!

Pop ups are everywhere. I gave mine away 5 years ago. We just didn’t use it anymore and it just sat in the yard.

As others have said, keep your eyes open and you can snag one for short money. Tis the season for them to ‘pop up’! ?

Please reconsider your use of a generator. Or at least severely limit it's use at night.

Camping around here has gotten stupid with them. Trying to sleep at night ALL you can hear are people's generators around you. Really spoils the atmosphere.

Also, your budget could acquire a killer traditional camp setup. And you wouldn't have to sleep in a sealed, I know they have SMALL vents, box. Just something to think about.

Thank that man for me.

A trailer like this would almost require a generator at night as there is no way to ventilate it at night. Not cool. Some of actually go camping to get away from that crap.

Check out this site. It has a ton of info and pics. tnttt.com (teardrops -n- tiny travel trailers) There is a cargo trailer conversion sub-forum. Some are pretty simple, while others are quite nice.

If your adding batteries there are several rv style vent fans that run on 12v that pull little power. Max air and Fantastic vents are 2 brands we use a lot of. They have several sizes depending on cfm requirements for your space. You could make some flip down bunks to accommodate sleeping arrangements but fold up to wall to keep floor space open for hauling stuff. Easley achieved with some gate hinges or piano hinges. lock in up position with some gate latches. Could be framed out of 2x4s. Would be a cheap solution

Didn't think about vent fans. That could probably work well.

If setting it up purely for camping you could look at doing rear doors instead of a ramp in order to put a pantry on the rear. Could be a cool project.
