I realize that there is an MPG thread. However, I thought it would be helpful if we created a thread that reports your mileage loss when upgrading to larger tires. We all know this is a given, but it would be nice to get an idea of what to expect from other people's experiences for those who are trying to decide how large they want to go.

List the size of the tire, rated load range, brand and model, weight (if possible), and mileage loss.

I'm wondering the effect too. I'm leaning towards 255/75/17 when it's time. They aren't the coolest looking but they are 2" taller an only about 5/6 pounds heavier each. The wildpeak's in 265/70 are over 10 pounds heavier.

I went from 255/65-17 Bridgestone Dueler AT RH-S to a 265/70-17 Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3. With the Old Man EMU lift at the same time I lost 0.5 MPG overall. After getting it tuned I got that back plus an extra 2 MPG.

I'm thinking about that size as well. I like how much lighter they are compared to others sizes. I think my alternative would be an LT275/70R17.

If you go on tirerack.com you can look at a tires specs an get the weight. the LT tires seem to be 5+ heavier which doubles the increase.

I'm running 265/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers and lost maybe .5 mpg. I lost more (about 1 mpg) when I leveled out the front but only notice it on highway, no real loss around town.

Since getting the Livernois tune I've gained all that back and then some as long as I drive it normal which is very hard to do.

Yes pretty hard to drive these trucks in a normal way especially with a tune. But it is nice for the fuel mileage we get when we are driving normally!!

I used both tirerack.com and tirebuyer.com to do the same. It's a good way to compare weight from the same size tires because some are heavier even though they're the same size. The Nittos were IIRC 8 lbs/each heavier than the stock tires and they are nice and quiet with no road noise.

did anyone have a problem getting a shop to install non factory size tires? I went through this on my mustang....I ended up just taking the wheels an tires there.

It all depends on the shop. Most have no problems doing it. If anything they might have you sign a waiver so they atent liable fir rubbing and stuff.

None...however, now that I've added an additional 3" to my over track and 2" each fender extension on each side (around 5+ total from stock), my milage dropped an additional 1 mpg as I had expected...
