I noticed on the FX4 models, you can downshift from "D" to "S". Is the "S" only on the FX4 ? I haven't been able to find a pic of the shifter without the Trail Mode button on the 4WD selector (which would indicate an FX4 model).

The "S" has two modes. Just move to "S" and it is in Sport mode, which changes the shift points, and if you use the +/- and it becomes select shift where you control the shifting. You can treat it like a manual.

Whoa. I popped the Ranger into "S" and it felt peppy indeed! Revs higher and shifts faster. This mode is perfect for the mountain twisties or towing. So far I'm amazed by this 2.3 EcoBoost (coupled to the 10-speed auto), it's quiet, strong, and economical. What's not to like?

There is a description of Sport mode on page 148 of the online Ranger manual, also check out "Progressive Range Selection" on page 149.

Note: Sport Mode will inactivate "Auto Stop-Start".

So, I hope we can assume that the "Tow Mode" button will come with the Tow package?
even though it is not specifically listed

The 10spd should have Normal, Tow and Sport driving modes. The Sport is more agressive on the shift points (going up and down) and changes the tip in on the throttle for better response (at least it does on the F150).

Never tried mine until today, it only has 2000 miles on it, wow what a difference I didn't like the 10 speed until I put it in sport mode its a totally different truck!!!

It makes driving a lot more fun in S mode. Just remember that if you're in S and hit the =/- button on the side of the shifter you will now be in manual mode. The tach will appear and you will have to now shift with the =/- buttons.

Not a shifter mode..
There is a tow/haul button that one can press. It also changes the shift points. It also enables the down hill trans/engine braking..
Should be on all rangers as all rangers can tow.. albeit bumper pull vs hitch...
