Which trim, packages and tire size do you think will have the smoothest ride. I am buying one as a daily driver and rarely go off road. When I do it’s it’s not technical. Looking for the best daily driving experience. I will get 4x4 though. Sport? FX4? Neither? 17? 18? Thanks!

Tires are a big factor in this case and the 2WD will have the smoothest ride since they come equipped with street tires.
I see the 17s are Bridgestone Dueler HPs on the 2WD, as for ride they would be the best of the bunch.
The FX4 will have the most aggressive offroad tire of the lot and therefore the least smoothness on pavement.
So 2WD,then 4WD then FX4.
While there are other significant factors I think you will find that even the 4X4 with FX4 will give a much better than satisfactorily smooth ride. The likely difference across the spectrum is practically negligible, especially when measured against the features which you want/need in your truck.

You might just want to drive them back to back and see what you like better. I drove a 4x4 Lariat last week and today I drove a 4x2. Other than the tires I'm not sure if there are any other specific suspension differences between them. For me the 4x4 felt smoother overall and not as harsh over bumps. The 4x2 seemed to give feedback and was able to feel more irregularities when out on the road. The 4x2 also felt firmer going over the same speedbump I went over in the 4x4. The 4x2 felt like it handled better overall also.

And what does the FX4 ride like?

Softer doesn't always mean better ride. There are a lot of variables at play. Sometimes the "off road" models of vehicles actually ride better because of better shocks, coils, tires, etc. that come in those packages and therefore less rebound in the suspension over expansion joints and pot holes.

You really should test drive a few different models to see what you like best.

You are right in saying ...drive them all and see which one you like best
"Better" is not only subjective, but also application sensitive.
What's "better" for the street is not necessarily better for offroad.

I am VERY thankful that my 2WD will not come with "offroad" tires.
The Bridgestone Dueler H/Ps were a better choice,
If I change them, it will be further toward "street tires"
I'll bet some folks with FX4s will want more aggressive offroad tires.
Each will be "Better" subjectively and for the application.

Well, I posted a link to a magazine review where they discussed the ride quality specifically. It would have been helpful in this thread. But, apparently a moderator moved it. Sorry.

I moved it because I thought it was mis-placed, so post it again if you want.
