Should I Buy 2 New Rangers or Wait for Courier

The dealer I talked to claimed to "have seen" the Courier that is being released. This was in March, then COVID hit now I'm getting mixed messages on release dates. I still expect 2021.

A "warmed-over import" would not necessarily be a bad thing if the price is right. When I bought my Rangers in the early 2000's they were inexpensive, utilitarian and small. After shopping new ones I have found the Frontiers offer the best value as a base truck with most room to negotiate, obviously due to the new model coming.

A 2dr fwd unibody truck under 20k would slot perfectly with my business so I likely going to wait. But I need caps for these to protect equip and I'm guessing Leer would be about 6 months past the release before a mid-rise cap was avail.

As far as your question regarding topper availability. It looks like it took about 5 months after release (Jan-May) before anyone on here got a topper for their Ranger, according to the main topper thread. I think that would be a good estimate. Maybe a bit shorter for the boxy commercial style ones since they don't require as much shaping.

Rangers weren't very available until March or April, so not that much longer for a cap.

you can always underload the truck, but if you get one too small, you cant miraculously carry more.

You could make that argument about a Ranger too, or even an F-150. Heck, that's why a good portion of people have Superduty's. They think that someday they might need to tow a 20k lb load up and over a mountain, so they might as well go for the big boy just in case. Most of them never do and they paid all that extra money for un-used capability.

Have you thought about reaching out to Leer?
I loved my 3 Undercover tonneau covers, so I reached out to them when the Ranger was announced. You just might be (pleasantly) surprised what you may hear. (Or disappointed)

You seem to keep circling back to the Frontier. My guess is that you have pretty much made up your mind and are trying to get us to talk you out of it. Buy one Frontier, keep one Ranger. Time will tell which direction you need to go.

The Frontiers are just cheaper obviously because they are an ancient model that’s about to be replaced. Reliability probably better since they been around so long as well. For my use a base Ranger new design offers minimal advantage.

Im going to ride out the season with what I got and see if any news on the Courier in Jan 2021
