While testing my new exhaust, I came across a Ranger F100!

Hi Scott,

Based in the Grill and the concave character line, probably 1975. 1974 had a convex character line.

Nice. I was impressed with how well it appeared to be cared for. I saw it near my girlfriend's house.

I wonder if someone nearby owns it.

Unrelated: I actually learned to drive on a mid-80s F250 diesel. My dad would always get mad when he asked me to put it in "first" because due to the gearing, he actually meant SECOND gear, lol. That truck was a beast. He regularly recovered flatbed lumber trucks that got stuck in mud on his job site.

When I was a teenager and worked at a Firestone Tire shop we had a red one with stick shift [cant recall how many speeds] maybe 4? with a straight 6 in it. I had a lot of fun making 'parts runs' for the tech's.

My Uncle bought one new, had it until 01 or 02, someone stole it. The thing was mint, the insurance company tried to give him a couple of hundred for it. Ended up getting enough to buy a new Ranger.

Just a Ford F-100 short bed pick-up.. Ranger might have been a trim level or someone put a ranger emblem on it.

yes, ranger was an upscale trim on the f series (not just f100) up until '81

In 1965 the Ranger package appeared for the F Series trucks. The smaller (or mid size) Version of the Ranger as it's own platform started in 1983 I do believe.

Hi Robert.

Ranger as a vehicle was birthed on 1982 ½ as a half year model launch. In 1981, I returned from a stint in the World Headquarters WHQ, on loan from Light Truck Engineering for a California Air Resources Board (CARB) initiative that required my skill set as a mechanic and and Engineer, and inherited a gaggle of 20 Ranger Prototypes that I parceled out for final testing prior to launch. Every engineer wanted to drive one and I tried to hand out keys to satisfy everyone. I know the Ranger would be a hit prior to production. The fate of my beloved 20 Rangers...the cursher...toast, done and gone.

Best,
