Fuel in oil

This thread has been open since October. These engines should have exploded like a grenade by now. Anyone have any feed back from Ford or a dealership other than observation of the oil level and sniffing for fuel?

I change my oil every 1500 miles so that it doesn't cause any long term damage. The damage would really manifest itself over the long term, not over a few months... The ignorant who don't check their oil or send it in for analysis won't realize anything is wrong probably until warranty is up.

9 k miles .oil changed at 4500 and 9k. no rise in level no noticeable smell in oil .oil was sorta still golden with the second oil change. I am thinking most don't have this worry .

That's good for you. Not saying that this affects every single Ranger. But if it anyone does find this issue, it would be prudent to change your oil far more frequently than is normally recommended. After just 1800 miles my oil was infact nearly 15% fuel, based on volume drained. The actual oil analysis won't measure over 5%. There is definitely a problem.

Is the percentage on the test supposed to be under for fuel dilution based on any miles?
Looks like they all say 2%.

So if those taking sending their oil in at like 2000 miles and it shows safe levels like 1.5 really is not?
Because at that rate at 4000 miles it would be 3 percent and 6000 miles it would be 4.5 which is high.

Could this not be caused by the extra fat oil cooler which would keep the oil too cold to "offgas" the dissolved fuel? Maybe run that engine a bit harder and see if it helps keep the fule % down. That may have already been mentioned and debunked, but it seems like a viable cause.

must be nice to not have the worry but I defnitely do. I can even take the oil fill cap off after driving and it will reek of fuel. Something is not right and id like to figure out what at some point.

I have two very good dealers in 15 miles of me I would for sure be there talking ! I don’t have a extended warrentee but I would be trying to get Ford to give me one for peace of mind . If not I would buy one . Sorry for your troubles . Doesn’t seem right or fair if they aren’t helping

Bit of an update from my vehicle pickup. When the service adviser initially gave me that response above, I politely but firmly voiced my displeasure with the troubleshooting as it had been relayed to me as the previous post mentioned.

At pickup, they had miraculously talked to Ford and here is the game plan at their direction (most of it is what I asked them to anyway, but....)

They Changed the oil and marked the dipstick. Marked the oil filler cap and zip tied and marked the dipstick. In 1000 miles I am to bring it back. My plan is break the seal for the dipstick when I take it back and smell for the gas smell at the time of drop off. By that time, my oil sample kit will be in and I can get the bottle filled and sent off.

I get it and on some level like the marking and zip tying to ensure no contamination as they have no idea what the oil level was before I brought it in and if there is something amiss, they have nothing to fall back on. My hopes are a little bit higher so we will see.

I truly hope all this was for nothing and there is nothing wrong in 1000 miles. If so, I got a free oil change out of it. If not, hopefully we can all start to get some answers from good folks here on the forum working through this.

Wade, maybe I lost track, but have you given up on Ford doing something? Short interval oil changes is a pretty crummy workaround for you.

I haven't given up, I've just been really busy lately and the military is moving me in a few weeks. Once I'm done with this PCS and get settled in I'll get involved with dealers at my next location and hopefully be able to get this resolved.

This is actually a great suggestion, and definitely worth looking into. That's one big difference between our trucks and a Focus RS or a mustang.

This is actually a great suggestion, and definitely worth looking into. That's one big difference between our trucks and a Focus RS or a mustang.

Those cars are generally driven harder and have smaller oil coolers. The Ranger has a big ass cooler to support it's towing capacity. So it's entirely possible that the oil coolder needs to be bypassed to keep the oil temp up to fuel incineration temp, while still being under oil incineration temp.

Still slogging through the 1000 mile test drive. I have a work vehicle and the ranger doesn't get driven very much. I'm 700 miles in and trying to keep the same driving habits in place that I had when the problem presented itself. It's driving me crazy to no be able to check my oil.

I will definitely update once hit that 1000 and take it in. I have the Blackstone labs sample bottle waiting for that visit to get an independent analysis.

Thank you, for the update!! A lot of "speculation" on the posting, and from my verification on my own engine, some owners have a real issue, because I changed out the oil in my ranger on Mon, and verified the level again, using the "six quart dump and go"!!
My engine has definitely had no level increase whatsoever, in 3000 miles. I wish I had pulled a sample to have it analized, but already took it to Wally world for disposal. I'm planning on running to 5k now, and doing it then-looks like most people are using Blackstone?? Hope everything else is ok on your truck--I REALLY like mine!!!
