So update. Today on way back, got 27.8 mpg on computer. 25.4 whem done by hand. Here is what i did. Did speed limit on cruise. But no faster than 65. One 4 mile stretch is 70 mph. Did 65 there. In 60 mph zone i did 60. In 65 i did 65 and in 55, did 55. There was 50 miles in 65 zone where i did 67. So pretty happy with25.4 mpg at least

I will say, gas was half top tier 93 and half citgo no top tier 87. I drove about 15 milez on tank around hilly mountains then came down 2 lane mountain road15 miles. Saw 23.5 mpg on compter at that point. Made to27.8 rest of trip.

Got a white lariat fx4. Hard tonneau. Was getting 23.4-23.4 average. Put on K&N CAI now I’m getting 23.7-23.8 mpg. My commute is part high mostly town driving 32 miles round trip. I use regular 87 oct gas. Full tank gets me low 400 range. Dual exhaust on its way. Will let you know if it helps.

So i think in my case. Running 7mph over limit loses me about 2 to 2.25 mpg over running speed limit. Made for a better less stessful trip too. Maybe thats how i will roll from now on. But in mountains, sport mode and hello 18mpg.

I’ve put K&n on my five previous trucks and every one has gotten .4 and above better mpg. Not sure why they get hate
Be sure to use the 'blue oil' (Ford) instead of the 'red oil' (Chevy)!!! The 'blue oil' is worth 5 more hp!!! Honest!!!

Shortly after I bought my 2019 XLT 4x4, I put 265/70-17s Falken Wildpeaks on it and a 2in lift on the front. I've been averaging 15-16 mpg on it, making my Ranger the the most thirsty 4-cyl I've ever owned.

I didn't check MPG before the tire & lift, so I have no idea how "normal" this is for slightly bigger tires and a lift. I don't haul heavy loads often, never tow, and don't floor it between traffic lights. I rarely use "Sport" mode, and my freeway/local driving is about 50/50.

My 2016 Challenger Scat Pack also averaged 15-16 mpg, with 3x the displacement. And yeah, I used those full 485 HP on a regular basis.

What's going on with my Ranger? Anybody take their Ranger in for a service visit due to MPG, and if so, what was the outcome?

Thanks!

I consistently get between 24 to 26 MPG on the interstate with my 2019 XLT Sport. No start/stop for me. I use 87 octane and have a light foot on the pedal, lots of cruise control driving. My 2019 Lincoln MKZ 2.0 T will do around 33 MPG under the same conditions.

They get more hate because most over oil them which can cause problems with the MAF/MAP sensor.
Also, the typical K & N filter traps particles up to 20 microns, while your regular quality paper filters can trap particles as small as 5 microns, basically 4 times smaller than the K & N.
Years ago I got caught up in the K & N hype, but went back to regular factory stuff. Even the Frams are better in trapping particles than K & N.

MAP sensor, no MAF in the newer Ecoboosts …

I normally get 21-22 MPG with my Sport 4x4. All stock right now and approximately 70% is hwy miles. I just drove north from San Diego to Folsom, CA. (east of Sacramento) and back last week. I was hoping to get 23 MPG. I was shocked when I got a solid 26 MPG on the way up. On the way back it was less - 24.5. I was hoping for 26 (same road and conditions), but I was still happy.

I drive the speed limit, use cruise, use ASS, fill with 87 octane, rarely use sport mode, never
used towing, truck is stock. Wife uses it most of the time cuz I WFH. So by far most tanks
are 50/50 driving. Best tank was on a trip up past Quebec city where it's hilly, used
sport mode, close to 23.5 mpg. Here is my milage per tank:
Hand calculated - "liters/km=l/100km mth/day (computer)"

10 liters = 23 mpg
11 liters=21.4 mpg
12 liters=19.6 mpg
13 liters=18mpg

Truck is rated at 9.8 / 10.8 / 11.8 hwy/city/combined

I was not impressed the first few months.... now at 10k miles.

i own a 2021 XL FX4 stock EXCEPT i put on cooper discoverer at-4s tires. same exact size as stock. They do weigh 5lbs more per tire than stock. I have 6500 miles. It seems on a long road trip of 200 miles, the best i can get is 23 mpg. This is going 55-70mph and most of those miles 67 mph. Very little stop and go. I do not use the auto start/stop feature. This same route i'd get 21mpg with my xterra with oversized tires and a tune. it was rated 16/21 mpg. I would see 23mpg with it back with stock tires. My patriot, rated at 22/25mpg saw consistent 26.4 on the same trip. And it had heavier tires- by 2 lbs a tire.

i keep seeing people saying on fakevook that they see 29mpg on highway, fx4. Lots of 27mpgs...... Does the 5lbs per tire really eat up 4mpg?

my oil level does rise- fuel in oil- but it's halfway between the high hash and top dot when cold, right below top dot when hot. I can't see that causing my poor mpgs....

i intentionally went with the coopers for their better winter driving characteristics as i go thru mountains alot. and they seem more rugged as far as sidewalls go.

i would expect though to see that 24 or 25mpg when i nurse it on the flat roads...... thoughts?
I am a very senior citizen and do not drive my 2019 Ranger hard. I have 14,667 miles and been keeping a fuel mileage spreadsheet since day one. My current MPG total is 23.32 based on 628.942 gallons used. I only use what the truck monitor says as a reference since the last fill up. Total fuel cost $1486.38.
I actually started keeping the log because after I purchased my truck I was notified of a Class Action Law Suit regarding the posted mileage on the F150 and Ranger trucks. Basically when Ford measured the mileage using deceptive practices that resulted in a posted mileage rating that was incorrect and could cost you big time over the life of the vehicle. I kept the log so I could prove my actual mileage. I have not received any recent feedback on the Suit.
Here is a link to the posting by Ford - https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2019/02/22/ford-overstated-gas-mileage-emissions/

I'm going to mess with my neighbor.
he's a calculation nerd with his mileage.
he never believes on board computers. only his math.
he trusts the fuel pumps are dispensing the exact amount of fuel. Why would he think any gas station is ripping you off??
He also had determined his odometer is bang on. he claims to have had it calibrated and tested.

Weirdo.

Anyways, I'm going to start adding fuel to his tank this winter. 1 gallon at a time.
that should screw with his calculations, right when he expects winter gas to be in full swing.
then come summer, i'll stop and watch him cry the blues on why his mileage average is plummeting.

I'll enjoy my beers, not worrying where my fuel went, and understanding that there are hundreds of ways fuel mileage will vary from day to day.
Do the opposite and syphon it out and watch his reaction. This way you're not spending money on gas and using his to fill your tank all while watching him freak out. ?
