Jack had a vet appointment for more vaccines. Put on 12 pounds in 3 weeks, up to 30 pounds. Sure is growing fast.

We lost our English shepherd Alfie on the 31st from kidney disease. Alfie was like a border collie with an attitude. He was a handful, but with great challenges come great rewards. Here he sits out in front of the Ranger, probably 9 years old at the time of the photo.

Alfie left a such a void, I had to do something, so I adopted Spoon. He's 9 months old, in the throes of adolescence. Wish me luck.

Great looking dog. We had border collies on the dairy farm. True cattle working dog. If we had cows out in the pasture and it was time for the evening milking id just point to the pastures and yell "go get them". He took off at a dead sprint and all you could see is a trail of dust. 10 minutes later he had them coming into the milk parlor pen.

I've never farmed actively, but my grandparents farmed some, piecing together a living income deep in the Upper Peninsula. Dad often talked about their collies walking the cows in to be milked. When sis and I were growing up, herding dogs were our only canine pets.
Alfie did pretty well in performance sports. He was a UKC agility champion and a rally master. He loved to work.

A nice balmy -1 this morning. 3 sweatshirts, carhartt bids, wool gloves and hats. Hands were getting uncomfortable by the time we got back from our walk. Jack couldnt of cared less about the cold. He sure loves the snow.

Sorry to hear of your loss. We lost Cheech at Thanksgiving and were torn about getting another. But we did and gave a home to a nine year old who sure helps make things better.

Plus, he's a little fart and, unlike Cheech, Kota LOVES to go for Ranger Rides. =D

They sure leave a big hole, and they sure add so much to our lives.

Here's to Spoon! I love that name! =)

Edit: +100 for a Race Red Scab!!!

Thank you sir. When you get into the senior class you learn that life is a series of goodbyes. Sad, but it beats the alternative. It's so kind of you to adopt an older dog. And yeah, race red Supercab, the thinking man's Ranger.

It is very hard to say good by, we said it eight times. We actually had two that had cancer, one took once a week before work for chemo, and the other we saw through several surgeries for cancer. Had one that was diabetic and we took him to the vet seven day a week for insulin shots because we had trouble trying to give him the shots ourselves.

We now have another rescue that is a heart worm survivor. Part Husky and part Icelandic Sheep Dog.
