I fill up every day, never know where work will bring me some days its 40 miles, other days its 350 lol
Hi Folks,

We arrived in Flagstaff and stopped to top off our tank of diesel... 50 gallons...$283.00... Have to keep the tank full to prevent algae in the tank for long term storage...

Best,
Phil

I believe the folks leaving California are not the folks that are pleased with the manner in which the State is current managed.

Edit:
I would leave if my circumstamces allowed it, but in the mean time, I just grind my teeth, wring my hands, and shake my head in wonderment of it all....
Hang in there Kent. Man I feel for you and the folks that are being treated like 3rd world citizens.
It isn't quite that bad here but it's amazing the people that walk around with a daze look in there eyes. I think the zombie apocalypse has begun :giggle:

At 2$ a liter in the great white north, so about 7.50$ for u guys, well, our $ is worth .75c , so, you figure it out, it sucks.... So, we now fill up at half, just for the psychological
factor. Just filled up, 36 liters(half tank), cost 71$ cad.
Good news, my wife is now driving a littler slower, no more WOT! it seems &
the fuel consumption is better. I've been bitching about the high fuel consumption
but the last few fill ups have been in the middle range, which I expect, so it's
9.8 highway, 10.8 both & 11.8 city, last 2 were 11L/100km.

That's pretty good for a petrol motor, about the same as I get out of my 3.2 diesel. Shame they didn't offer the ecoboost as an option here, city buyers would have loved it. However if you want to travel outback diesel is much more available beccause of mining and primary production. Some remote stations don't even stock petrol. Mining and construction companies are big buyers of Rangers and Toyota land cruisers and they only use diesel fuel fleets.

With T-Mobile phone, I get 5¢ off per gallon at Shell stations, once per week. Couple that with the Shell rewards 5¢ per gallon and you're talking about some savings. That all leads to, I fill up every week, simply because I lose it if I don't use it.
T-Mobile Tuesdays :^)

I know this has been brought up in other mpg threads but I don't think we've ever had one dedicated to this. I usually fill up when a 1/4 tank is left but with gas being so high now I've been filling up right around the 1/2 way mark. It's just a little less painful even though you're spending the same amount in the end. I had an ex who'd run it down to fumes!

So are you conservative and fill up early or adventurous and live on the edge??

1/4 to 1/2 tank usually.

Thread's long, didn't read it all. But if no one has said it, definitely no less than 1/2. The fuel pump is submerged in the tank and cooled by the fuel. Let it get too low and you risk burning out the pump. I know from experience, had that happen to my 2003 F-150 and it was the only problem with that truck I ever had after 75K miles. Great truck (4.6L btw) wish they still made it.

Same.

My dad told me to ride the top half of the tank. I still do, unless it's a long Sunday drive that I know well (we drive up to Mt. Washington twice a year plus a leaf perping trip on the Kancamagus Highway). Still waiting to be abducted like that other Portsmouth couple ...

Plus, I always have 2+ gallons in a small Wavian ...

My standard practice is at 1/4 but occasionally will go until the low fuel warning notification comes on (as long as there's a station nearby) just to get rid of as much old gas as possible.

I've done this a couple times but try not to, 1/4 is usually my limit. Annie has a co worker who only puts in $5.00/day and always drives with the warning light on. I know him pretty well and let's just say he's pretty well off too so I can't imagine his reasoning for stopping every day for gas. I joke with him saying he must be part Polish and is worried if he totals his car he'll loose out on a full tank of gas. lol

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
I shoot for between 1/4 and 1/2. Just want to ensure I buy a minimum of 10 gallons so it meets the program qualification requirements to keep getting my Shell discount.
I don’t ever want to be below a 1/4. In any vehicle. Ever. On a road trip? Drops below 1/2 and I’m thinking “gas soon.”

Either when I get down to 1/3 full or once a week, whichever comes first. It's usually tuesday nights after work. Big outliers being if I've driven a lot for work, or if the family's taking a day trip somewhere. That 1/3 is enough of a cushion to get me on my way if I have to get going somewhere and home in an emergency.

I always keep the miles to empty notification below on so I don't slip up and get too low on gas. If I do decide to go to the low warning light to get out as much old gas as possible its only when there's a station near and I can immediately fill up and not go below that.
