I noticed a couple of these holding the trim around the seat adjustments to the seat frame (front and rear).

Sorry about the picture quality but I’m not going back down there - it’s dark and scary and there are McDonalds French Fries everywhere!
You're a rockstar, that looks like it! This forum seriously rocks, thanks all.

McDonald fries have no expiration date and roaches won't touch them...making them perfect for emergency rations...

Maybe it's the "engage the bad shifting collar" bolt since my transmission has been flawless since day 1 without it! *knocks on wood*
How many miles on your truck if you don't mind me asking?

Only ~8000. I use it mostly for camping trips so a significant portion of that is offroad. I bought the extended warranty based on all the experiences reported here and it gives me some comfort, mine was built early 2022 which I think is too early for the updated CDF drum.

Shortly after buying the truck I noticed this bolt in the drivers side footwell by the gas pedal, any mystery bolt in a vehicle makes me nervous. Probably should have posted this back then but I'm slow, and despite beating up the truck on a few trips now, the steering wheel hasn't fallen off or anything...

A long shot here, but we seem to have some resident 5g Ranger wizards on here so maybe someone can identify it.

I can't find my post but when I first got Soupie, I found a similar bolt on the passenger side. I was certain something would later fail but nothing ever did.

As others have said, probably fell out of an assembler's hand or pocket and they just grabbed another and didn't look for the dropped one.

Edit: sorry, mine was a mystery nut! Maybe we can get them together to make a complete nut & bolt!

Maybe completed fasteners were one of the "nice to have but not really critical" things they dropped in the 2021-2023 models along with the engine cover.

Back when I had a Jeep Wrangler, I found a couple screws on the passenger floor. I posted on a forum with the same question you had and a guy who worked in the factory said they roll down the line with the fasteners in the passenger footwell for a particular operation. When they put them in at the start of that part of the line, sometimes they put too many in and after that, it isn't anyone's job but the final inspection person to pick them back up. Sounded sketchy, but I never question a UAW worker. :)

I lost a nut once when working on a tractor when I worked for a Ford tractor dealership. When I fired it up, I knew instantly where the nut was. Customer got a free head gasket replacement as I had to take the head off to retrieve the nut lodged in a piston top.

It’s the main carrier bolt that attaches the steering wheel! ?
