Shortly after buying the truck I noticed this bolt in the drivers side footwell by the gas pedal, any mystery bolt in a vehicle makes me nervous. Probably should have posted this back then but I'm slow, and despite beating up the truck on a few trips now, the steering wheel hasn't fallen off or anything...

A long shot here, but we seem to have some resident 5g Ranger wizards on here so maybe someone can identify it.

I'd be more concerned that you might have some nut's running around the floor of your Ranger !!!
Where there's a long bolt, there's usually a pair on nut's not too far away !!!

Maybe just something that fell out of someone's pocket while doing the pre-delivery inspection. Somewhere between over inflating the tires and making sure the washer fluid was almost empty.?
You're not kidding about the washer fluid, first time I used it I got one or two squirts then it was out. ?

I just went out to my Ranger with flashlight...looked under drivers seat and under dash/drivers side and didn't observe any Torx head fasteners holding anything together. Is your truck used or did you buy it new ?

100% new, I did the same when I found the bolt and couldn't find a likely looking place it would have come from.

Looks more like the bolt that keeps the fuel out of the oil but I could be mistaken. ;)

Either that or the bed left side height adjustment bolt?

I noticed a couple of these holding the trim around the seat adjustments to the seat frame (front and rear).

Sorry about the picture quality but I’m not going back down there - it’s dark and scary and there are McDonalds French Fries everywhere!

when we talk of missing hardware, this is probably the bolt that concerns me the most.
Ya got it backwards....this bolt isn't missing...it's found !!!
What's missing is the place to put it !!!

Maybe it's the "engage the bad shifting collar" bolt since my transmission has been flawless since day 1 without it! *knocks on wood*

I took a lot of pictures when I had various parts of the dash apart. I see several places where a torx is used. Some have the washer integrated (around the shifter), most have the washer separate like in your pic.
Here you can see them used around the hood release area of the dash and also in the back of the centre console.
