Follow-up on the Ford trailer brake controller install. Pretty sure there was an ECU flash or something performed as part of the install at the dealer. I never read the instructions since I wasn’t installing, but if they flashed it I feel like they should’ve told me.

I say this because the transmission was ROUGH for a few days following the work. The dealer didn’t drive the truck at all. Had the same mileage when I picked up as when I’d dropped off.

After about 500 miles the transmission is smooth as butter again. So I’m guessing it was in its adaptive/learning mode.

So anyone else considering the Ford trailer brake accessory, I recommend asking if there’s an ECU flash involved if you’re having your dealer do it.

Shouldn't have needed an ECU flash unless you were listed for one for something else. Might have disconnected battery for the install though.

that’s what I thought, but I’m baffled why the transmission would be so rough and then clean itself up. It’s wonderful again like it was when I dropped it off. Learning mode was my only explanation and I didn’t think disconnecting the battery would do that.

oh well. Alls well that ends well.

If disconnected for 15 minutes or longer, it will clear a lot of things.

Picked up center caps for the Bronco BD take-offs since the person I bought the wheels/tires from didn't have them. I don't hate having the Bronco logo as much as I thought.

Also washed it - can't beat 70 degrees in February

A few days on light duty due to cataract surgery. Decided that detailing the Ranger was not too strenuous. A good wash, once over with a Mothers Speed Clay 2.0, and a fresh coat of 303 graphine. Almost 4 years old and 40K miles. Just a few character marks but still looking good. I still Love this Truck.

Edit: When I saw the side picture I thought I had some how left some dried graphine. Then I zoomed in. it is my flag in the background.

Facelift underway, factory bumper off

Checking hole size for parking sensors

Snapped in after cutting the housing keyways in the test template with the trusty Dremel

End of day 1, test fitting, head scratching about ACC mounting you name it

Back after it, this was towards the end of day 2

Success, it's hung ? by the second afternoon
1000004893.jpg

Nothing torqued yet

Starting to take shape though
1000004901.jpg

Day 3, it's basically done. It's on, torqued, parking sensors work and passed their test.

Wasn't thrilled with my ACC mounting solution so that got reworked today. I need $8 of hardware from the Depot tomorrow and then minutes and it'll be done done.

Also have some shackle mounts coming tomorrow so I'll try and put those and the shackles on for the final photos ?
How much did you torque the main bolts that holds bumper to the frame to?

I was wondering the exact same thing but somehow I think it kicks in at “precisely 88 miles per hour”. ;)
He's got some electrical wizardry going there for sure. Bottom left looks like a single pole terminal block, I'm guessing that a negative battery lead runs in then out to his lights and accessories kinda like a USB switch for the negative lead.

He's got a beefy lead coming up from the bottom and some other stuff up on top. Maybe this Bluetooth device we're hearing about? Rather than routing everything with wires and hard switches you route it to this thing then control all your devices wirelessly by phone or battery controlled switches in the cab instead of hard wired buttons or switches

That's my guess

Based on my visual inspection, the large black block is a power distribution/fuse block, the smaller horizontal piece is a ground. This is a way to wire up all the accessories. I don't see anything that would be a switch yet.

I can't wait to see how it all comes together.

That would be the Garmin PowerSwitch, which I have installed on my Ranger. Its worth every penny.

I think you’re right but whatever he’s got going on, I’m still keeping an eye on the clock tower in my hometown, just in case.
