It’s Thanksgiving Day here in Canada.

We had a stuffed turkey breast with gravy, carrots, Yorkshire puddings, and mashed potatoes (a bit of buttermilk and butter while mashing makes a world of difference). I ate it all up before I could get a photo but we had an apple, rhubarb, cranberry galette with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Gizzards and gravy over egg noodles....and a couple biscuits. I love the texture of gizzards.

Clean and trim all fat, par boiled for 5 min, cut up and add to crock pot with a can of cream of mushroom soup and 2 cans chicken gravy + 1 can of water. Cook on low for 4 hrs. Serve over noodles, rice or mashed potatoes.

My dad use to eat that stuff and me and my mom would look at him like wtf is that mess?:eek:

Interestingly, I started this thread 4-1/2 years ago with a modified spaghetti dinner to satisfy Mrs. DukeCanBuildit’s quest to make us eat a bit healthier.

Tonight, it comes full circle with a spaghetti dinner recipe to meet my wife’s special dietary needs (for those who know our situation, yep, still).

Tomatoes are a big no-no for her and this guy who loves spaghetti and pizza has been having to switch things up, and not always in a good way. White pizzas are fine but some of the tomato sauce substitutes for pizza and pasta have left a lot to be desired. I’ve tried a few and have been disappointed.

Tonight, we’re having spaghetti with “nomato” sauce. If you’re familiar with it, you might even have your favourite version of this tomato alternative. The one I made has onions, garlic, carrots, red bell pepper, and beets.

It looks like minestrone while you make it…

It doesn’t taste like tomato sauce but it is the best substitute I’ve had. It has the right sweetness and texture and if you spice it up with basil, oregano, red pepper flakes and add some cheese, it works!

I froze the leftover sauce - next time, I’ll add some ground beef and I’ll also try it on a pizza one night.

That same system brought us our first snow of the season. It will all melt in the next few days and we may not see any more for weeks. However, it’s a good reminder to put the patio furniture in the storage shed now that I’m not busy putting up Christmas lights. 🤦‍♂️
