When the Takita airbag recall first started we had notices on all 3 of our vehicles . A 2011 MB , a 2007 Ford and a 2008 Chrysler . It took 4 years for them to get to the last one due to shortage of replacements . Chrysler was the last one to get to my 2008 Crossfire . I can actually see how it might have gotten put off especially if it ran into the 2020 fiasco .

From the article:

" A Ford spokesman said the automaker sent over 100 notices to the owner’s home and also a representative who visited in person. "

since 2018 to 2022 is 4 years, thats 365X4= 1460 days
100 notices 1460/100= 14.6 days

Is ford expecting me to believe that every two weeks they sent a letter to this guy?
I'm pretty skeptical. Seems more like a CYA prior to the impending lawsuit from his estate.

A notice could be a phone call, text, email, letter...
100 does sound like a lot until you compare it to the number of notices about a warranty expiring. ;)

If you believe everything you read on the internet (like me) I just saw a post the other day on Reddit from somebody that bought a used Mercedes Benz and almost immediately had someone representing Takata reach out to them to let them know they had bought a vehicle that did not receive a recall repair. I'd imagine it's part of the lawsuit to keep up with all of this for a period of time..

We received emails and notices by mail over the years also but when we tried to schedule the work the dealerships all kept putting us off due to no parts . I'd say it was every 6 months or so from each manufacturer . Even if they did send that many (skeptical also) , they might not have been able to get the work done . We continued to drive ours as well . What are we supposed to do , rent a car on our own dime ? I'm sure they will have a civil suit and settle out of court on this .

Well…lets talk about this recall. My son was driving a 2006 Mustang GT that was involved in this recall. I started getting recall notices for the airbag issue, so I took the car to Ford of North Scottsdale (now known as AutoNation Ford Scottsdale). I was told I was put on the waiting list. Never heard back from then and more notices showed up. So I take the car back to Ford of North Scottsdale again (and again). Get put on the waiting list again. Then the fun really begins. I get a call from Ford of North Scottsdale that the airbag has come in and schedule a service appointment. Take the car to them and find out the airbag was given to another customer. Told I am being put back on the waiting list. I was not very happy by this point. I was definitely waiting over a year, probably close to 18 months by this point. So, I call Ford Customer Service and file a complaint and ask for an appointment with the regional service advisor regarding this issue that Ford appears to be unable to repair on my Mustang. Ford Customer Service refuses to setup this appointment. After the run-around I got from Ford, one would have thought they would have prioritized this, but they didn’t seem interested in doing that. Also, Chapman Ford in Scottsdale Arizona was also waiting for an airbag for my Mustang but didn’t seem to be able to get one either. I never did get the airbag replaced in that car. The main bearing failed in the 4.6L v8 and I sold the car.

It is sad but the owner did have enough enough notices sent to him through the years. Unfortunately you can only lead a horse to water.
Two sides of the coin, on the issue. One is that some people are very and pardon being blunt but if ignorant. One thing that honestly left me speechless in the industry was that yes people believe despite manufacturers, commercials and letters mailed that recall work is free, owners actually believe they still have to pay for the recall.

Now the other side is that having worked the industry is parts availability. Chrysler recalled all Grand Caravan and Town And Country vans for the rear quarter window vent switch. When the vans came in for service we were to immediately disconnect and inform the customer it's for their safety as the switch can get wet and start a fire. Biggest annoyance aside customers griping, was parts. There was no replacement switch available as it had not been developed yet. I think it took over a year before a new one came out. Now couple over many dealers having no priority in scheduling recall work, the owner may have been trying to get the work done but couldn't. Facts are only being told from one side.

I still get recall notices for my 2012 Mustang that I traded in to a ford dealer 7 1/2 years ago. I have filled out surveys and talked to people on the phone and told them the dealer who took it on trade. Yet I still get notices about this. I give up............. :frown:

I have ignored one recall in my life - GM Unintended key rotation, but after looking at the recall letter and noting the only thing they were doing is cutting my keyhole so that only (1) item can be attached to it (The FOB), Of course I never had 10 lbs. of keys hanging off of it anyways. I get a recall card for that and a Taka Airbag recall card for my son's truck that was traded in about 3 years ago.
They come about every 3 months or so, ironically got one yesterday, so clearly the new truck owner is not getting them, my car however was sold to related family on wife's side and was made aware, don't overload the keyring and gave him the recall card. The ignition switch had been replaced anyways for another issue (GM Passkey) security failed preventing starting the car, had to bypass switch by key-on and jumping starter solenoid terminals, thus pinpointing problem.
This was one of my biggest adjustments to Push Button Start, No Keys, I still catch myself pulling the FOB out of my pocket to start the truck

I remember when that recall came out and my 2009 Mustang was affected. It took 22 months to get the driver side and another 13 months to get the passenger side replaced. I got at least one reminder a month from ford to schedule a repair asap. Each time I called my dealer service department to only be told they weren't available. I can't recall if those notices came with a do not drive till fixed warning, but I do know dealers wouldn't take it on trade as they weren't allowed to resale it with an open safety recall.

Over 100 letters AND a personal invite???!!! That's a "HELL, no, I won't update"...

But a little context... took 3 years for a air bag allocation to my local Ford dealer for my 2005 Ranger to show up... and that was passenger side... another year for driver side.

They even sent a rep to his home and he still ignored it. You can only do so much to keep your customers safe.

Is anyone else still on a waiting list for the windshield issue?
I am! Went to the dealer......they ran my VIN and told me I was on the 'edge' of the recall. I informed them I received the notice from Ford about the recall. They said to check back in a couple months. Delay tactics!
