My 89 Ranger was definitely a sleeper with the 2.9L V-6, 5 speed and 2WD. Beat Camaros, TA's, S-10's with the 4.3, and many others.... BUT, did get my butt handed to me one night out cruising University Ave in W'loo/Cedar Falls IA....it was a Olds Calais with the Quad 4 engine....and he smoked me bad !!
I think you need that once in a while to bring you back down to reality. But after smoking a few more you tend to forget about how bad you just got beat. lol

It really is crazy to see. Downtown St Louis on the weekends, there are lots of Hellcats and Shelby's racing on the interstate.
Hall street was always fun on the weekends. Do people still race down there anymore?

I have surprised a few full sized trucks and SUV's off the line with my little Ranger with its 4 banger :p

Back in high school I had a 1978 Mercury Zephyr with a 302 BOSS engine. It was definitely a sleeper. One day I pulled up to a stop light next to a 1969 Dodge Coronet with w 440 6 pack. Yes I knew he would win the race but I just couldn't resist. I blew his doors off for the first 1/8 of a mile until he got that big block wound up. We pulled into a parking lot and he had to see what I had under the hood of the old Zephyr. He couldn't believe that my little Grampa car with a 302 ate his lunch in the first 1/8 mile.

Hall st and Riverview some. Interstate 70 is like Gateway racetrack at times. Total insanity. Will have groups of 15 cars go by at 130+

With my '06 GT it sounded really fast. But, I was careful with some of the tuners that ran around town. Sound just don't win no races. :)

I still hate the day I sold that car. It was quite fun to drive. I've been looking at a few S197's lately, but the dang prices are unreal.
Mine was an '05 with a 5-speed and 3.55 gears. Not much mods. Hurst shifter, tower brace, lower control arms and a custom cat-back with Pypes M80s. Damn do I miss that car. Pull me over red and sounded perfect. Definitely not fast.

I traded it in for my 17 Silverado a few years ago. I think I got $6,000 for it? 95k miles on it and it was immaculate. I kick myself. But, the Mustang won't haul a boat or a kayak...

Nice cool weather down here right now. I think I will get up early tomorrow before traffic picks up and do a few runs.
I love how they run in the cooler weather! I hope I get my baby back Monday or Tuesday. We've been in the low 60s the upper 60s and it ain't getting much better. Nights have been in the 50s.
I've been driving an Escape for a loaner car and its no where near the same thing. It's a peppy little thing but that's about it. It'll smoke them front tires off the line so I try to be careful. (I'm one of the rare ones that doesn't drive loaners or rentals hard, believe it or not)

My Ranger had only been out of the break-in period for a couple of months and I had yet to floor it. I had just entered a 2-lane onramp for the interstate that has a substantial uphill grade before merging. (People not familiar with this ramp don't appreciate the grade or the fact that they'll soon be merging with 65 mph traffic, so they often find themselves at the top going less than 50, which is unpleasant for the traffic that they'll be merging with) Not far behind me was a kid in a rice rocket who thought he was going to pass me before the merge. I thought, "Um, no" and floored it for the first time. I felt my back push into the seat and I was a quarter mile ahead of the guy in seconds. Never got to enjoy the look on his face. I'm pretty sure he wasn't expecting to get smoked by a mere stock pickup truck.
