Today we drove around to a few different areas and neighborhood checking out the area and the houses. I did run into one lady who had just recently closed on their new house. She said things have gone crazy here (just like everywhere else) and the prices are really high now. They paid $288.00 a sq ft which is crazy high for a non custom new build.

We looked a many different areas and didn't see any open houses today so we went up the hill to a small town called Apple valley, about 7-10 miles outside Hurricane. The lady working at the museum told us about this area and said people are starting to move up there as it's a little more affordable right now.

Of course I got sidetracked when I saw this sign for Gooseberry Mesa and a long dirt road heading out into the desert. We never did get all the way to the end as the road went on forever and I was getting down under 1/4 tank but man the views out here are great. Come to find out it's a big place to go mountain biking and hiking and we were still a ways away but still had fun exploring these backroads.

You start down this road for about 2 miles and it's nothing but washboards the whole way.

In the Middle of Nowhere, New Mexico.

We've been on one of those roads ourselves brother Dave. This pic was about 10 miles in. Around 10 miles later it looked the same. :)

BTW, I know I'm getting old now. We build our first house at $12 a square foot. However, in 1977 that was a ton of money.

Jim looks like we were on the same road, sometimes these adventures are the most fun! Yup, this road didn't change either until I took the left towards Gooseberry Mesa. Of course Annie gets nervous and always says "I don't think this goes anywhere". lol

$12.00/ sq ft darn I wish it was that now. When I built my first house and went for the construction loan the VP of the bank said I couldn't finish it for what I applied for. It was $80.00/sq ft (1993) and I made it and closed with a few dollars extra to help with the closing cost. Never tell a Polack he can't stretch a buck! ?

I know exactly how that felt. I told folks that our first house was decorated in "Early Poverty". Lived pay check to pay check for awhile don'tcha know.

BTW, I thought I got up early, but you surely beat me today. What is it, 5 am out there? :)

At least you had a roof over your head and made it work! :like:

I've been up since 4:15 ? We're headed out towards St George to go hiking before it gets to hot today. Of course Annies not as motivated as I am and is still sleeping. She's got 5 more minutes until I soak her fingers in warm water.

We got out early this morning and did a short hike up in St George, UT at Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. I could tell Annie wasn't really up to it because she took forever to get going but I never had to get the warm water out. lol We've been getting some god evening storms here so it's been a lot muggier than normal and it heated up fast this morning. We did a short 2 mile hike up to the top of this ridge and turned back. She's been a sport about going on every hike for the past 4 weeks I could tell she didn't want to go much farther so why push it and get another injury.

You can rock climb here and there were a few just setting up on this one as we went by.

She took one look at those rocks then at me and I knew here was a good place to turn back. It's labeled as an easy trail (which I think it was) but with a bum knee she said it was getting to hard and was afraid of sliding off the edge of one.

We went back showered and I figured I do something she likes even though there's no more room in my truck.....Shopping! We headed to Zion which is about 20 miles from here and had lunch at this really great place we were at in 2020 called Oscars. It's pricey (everything is in Zion) but you get a ton of food and great service there. We were stuffed so before her little shopping spree we walked all the way down the the entrance on the park. It's getting really hot now so we hung out for a while and took the shuttle back and hit the stores. At least had cold ac.?

Zion like Moab was really kind of dead which is surprising going into 4th of July weekend.

We spotted this deer just hanging out on the side of the road. They must be so use to people there he could've cared less about us.

Just a few shots from the entrance to Zion NP. We might get up early and go into the park tomorrow or hit Bryce Canyon which is about 2 hours away but it's much cooler up there.

Thanks Duke, it's been way more fun than we even thought I'd be! Sadly we're winding down to only 2 more full days left and leaving here Sunday back to the blast furnace in AZ.

Someone on the trail today made a comment that it gets really hot here. I said we're from AZ, this is like a cold front here. lol If it weren't muggy from the storms the past two nights this weather here has been great with days around 99-100 and nights cooling off to 71-73. Of course I'd prefer the weather we had in CO & SD but this is getting us ready for the oven. ?

Well, as hot as the summers are, you’ll likely be glad to be home when you get there. Enjoy these last two days and travel safely.
