Thirteen minutes just to say, "your keyless entry fob is always transmitting and theives can record and duplicate the frequency to steal your car. If you wrap your fob in foil or a Faraday pouch they can't do it anymore."

I know there's showmanship and all, but that should've been a 2 minute video.
Yeah, we sure did not need to know that he put a pot of coffee on before going out to take in the trash! Still, I am glad somebody raised this issue on the forum, and I am going to keep my fob and phones in a Faraday box and/or pouch from now on....

This is why I hate the push button start....wife has it on her 2020 Escape, and I just can't get a good feeling of security using it. I'll take a key over it any day!
Keys are in no way secure, either. They're just more familiar.

I know this is useless info for the casual lease or stock truck owner...I'm sharing this to the guys who have much more invested...time spent on your creation is not covered by insurance...

Digital theft of all kinds is a huge problem for all of us and it's only going to get worse! Why can't we do iris scans for monetary transactions in 2021? We need some sort of biometric method to create a private, digital security shield that is unbreakable.
I have had several digital security issues in the past year....now I'm concerned about this key fob threat. :curse:

He mentioned that new technology allows theft range of over 300 feet...
The range at which they can recieve a signal is limited by the transmitter in the fob. An amplified reciever can only do so much before noise becomes a problem.

I cannot leave my keys in my bedroom and go out and start any of my 3 push button start vehicles in the garage. The poor little battery in the fob just can't push a signal that far. If my car can't see I'm sure all but the most advanced scanners can't see it either. And even if they can they'd still have to get through my garage without waking the mutts and being introduced to my boom stick.
I think the danger is that they can capture your vehicle code and user information anywhere you go...airport, public places, etc...then hit your home later...that's where the Faraday pouch comes into play for protection...
And how are they gonna know where you live?

I could understand people that live in a port city where auto theft is simply another international business wanting to use this. But for the vast majority of us it's simply preying on our unfounded concern.

What's wrong with cash?

Sounds like your digital footprint is too large. You need some analog in your life.

The way the guy explained it, once they've captured your code, they encode a new key fob...I'm guessing all that information contains your VIN and Ford Pass...but hey, I'm not saying that you worry... ?

Sounds like your digital footprint is too large. You need some analog in your life.

For me I use my Capital One card for everything I can so I can rack up my points, I get 1 1/2 points per dollar spent. I have over 400,000 points accumulated now which I can use for credits towards my purchases or cash which would be over $4K right now. I pay my balance in full so why not let them pay me for using their card? I have had a couple hacks over the years but they instantly credit me for them and send me a new card overnight.

So for me it's the convenience of not caring a wallet stuffed with cash and other junk and if I lose my wallet all my cash is gone. If I lose my cc it's frozen and replaced the next day.

Don't be like George. ?

Oh.....we just had a taste of "worse" a few days ago. The Colonial pipeline hack. A whole different level compared to not seeing your truck parked in the driveway.
