People don’t like to walk. I always park in the back. It’s easier to get in and out too. I don’t know what it is in my particular area, but I see these slobs parked waiting in the middle of the lanes just waiting for someone to pull out so they can get a closer spot. Usually some hefty fella or woman in a big SUV or f250. Pathetic. That’s what I can’t stand about this area.

I’m in a ranting mood today. Another thing that I hate is a semi empty parking lot, with many many open spots and some IDIOT will park right next to you. Why!? Every time it happens I look over and shake my head. I never do that. I’ll at least skip a spot to leave some space between me and the vehicle closest to me.

Sorry about your luck OP. I would be upset too. But like others have said, it probably isn’t an expensive fix.
I've experienced that more than once. Will park in an end space with all the other spaces empty in that line. invariably someone will park right next to me and even come so close that an inconsiderate door opening event would create an ugly mark. Have decided to go to the angle parking scenario in hopes of preventing that scene :)

Parking a comfortable distance from an already-parked vehicle provides a known situation on at least one side of the vehicle. Bonus points if the stationary vehicle is new and expensive, decreasing the chances that the other owner will carelessly damage both vehicles.

Yup, some people are careless, or even 'unconscious'.

Years ago I was a field service rep fixing machines on-site at retail outlets.
I pulled into a street diagonal parking spot in downtown Boston in front of the CVS store I was going to.
I got out of the car, went to the trunk, was getting out my toolkit and spare parts, when the lady next to me pulled out.
She cut the wheel, caught me just behind the passenger door, continued to the rear bumper, pushing my car about a foot sideways, while I was standing at the trunk!
When she pulled out enough so her door was next to me, I yelled "Lady, WHF are you doing?"
She said, "Oh my, you weren't there when I looked".
So, I guess you only have to check surroundings about every 5 minutes or so, before you put your 2000lbs of steel in motion?

Hope you get your ding fixed OP, they're unfortunately unavoidable with the yawhoos on the road.

Appreciate the story and care! That is so wild she wasn't even aware she was clunking her big hunk of metal against another big hunk of metal HAHA.

I got it fixed today for 375$, will be posting pics and story of it.

Oh boy. Here is the final update to this fiasco for all those reading. Got a PDR specialist out here, was quoted 350-400, costed 375$. He was a very nice guy we talked about movies, tv shows, and he showed me the whole process and asked me to ask questions if need be. I watched about 80% of the two hour process. He saw the photo and said hey that doesn’t look too bad, but the angle I took it at didn’t show how deep the dent was. He thought it would be a 30-1 hour job but took him double the time and he said he was doing it perfectly slow because I’m a cool customer.

I know a lot of people think aluminum is easier to work with, myself included. But after talking to him and seeing how much brute force he was putting into the backside of the dent, I was shocked. He was telling me aluminum has a misconception that since it’s a softer metal it’s easier to work with. However, the flexibility of it makes it tougher due to not wanting to over flex the metal and that it doesn’t bang out as nice from the backside as steel. He said aluminum makes it harder to dent, but it’s harder to fix the dent. He told me if it was a normal steel, the dent would of been way larger.

I was skeptical but after watching him slowly knock out sections with a small chisel like tool and then accessing the backside with a dent pusher with full arm and shoulder strength, I was amazed. It was not an easy job in the sun, and he was a big fella. I swear I was sent the Michelangelo of dent repairs, it really is like magic watching them work the metal. Truly a puzzle as you knock out one section and it moves another section then you have to change sides because the dent will look good from one side but not the other. Just amazed. Gave him a 10$ tip for the new episode of Loki he will be watching, perhaps a beer or snack. The job was too expensive to tip more but loved the service and he said thanks for being a great customer since we chatted the whole time.

I’ll be putting in pictures of the progress in a time line fashion.

1 hour later, notice that crease near the curve of the fender flares taking more effort since it’s so small and on a curvature.

2 hours later. Amazing work, took one whole hour to get that small crease out, great attention to detail and effort.

Appreciate all your guys concerns and help. I will miss this forum in a decade when everyone has moved on, just a thought I had the other day and now again. Although, a happy ending sort of, just 375$ short but money is a tool towards your goals not a means to happiness, but in this instance money bought happiness :sun::beer:

P.S. I bought Bushwacker OE style fender flares to avoid future dings like this. Also will be looking at Rocky Road rock sliders. I want the fiberwerks raptor fender/bedsides but after asking around I really don't have 3k lying around to be doing an aesthetic thing. At least there will some use to the other mods. If I bought the fender flares at the get go, I would have saved 400$, not to mention I DID NOT have the damper installed so my truck looked weak and non-aggressive. Big mistakes. So lesson learned, install your dampers, fender flares and park away from idiots.

Nice. Years ago I was packing up my car and I carry a big beefy laptop in a backpack that I use at our mountain property as my media device when we go there (travel trailer). I had my arms full and let the backpack swing down. Bang. Goose egg dent right on the edge of the rear qtr panel behind the door. Never gonna leave that there reminding me what I numb nut I was. Money well spend.

Haha funny story. If it's not there and looks perfect, nothing happened. Money very well spent

Wait...What? We're supposed to move on?? ? ?

Brandon, I'm glad it all worked out for you and by looking at the pictures it looks like he did a great job, especially for being a back truck! I know it's a long shot but hopefully there were cameras in the area and you could catch this dirtbag but sometimes it's best to leave it alone and let Karma get him back.

Haha unfortunately, the time eventually will come :frown:

Appreciate it Dave! He really did. Yeah, I figured it's too much effort and people who put themselves in bad positions like that will get what comes around in due time.

Holy crap that looks like nothing ever happened I would be perfectly ok with the results.

I assume the funny looking square with lines of light is some tool they use to help get the steel straight.

I don't park next to people intentionally.

Unless they're parked sideways accross two spots like that. I see that as a big red flag for "entitled, megalomaniac." Not saying that's you at all. But that's what I see.

Personally I'll park right next to those cars. Especially if I'm driving my old beater Jeep.

Seeing as he's parked way out in the back I don't have a problem with people parking like that. it's the ones who do this closer to the front of the stores that I do. Besides, most people (especially here) are to darn lazy to walk from the back of the parking lot and ironically they're the ones who need the extra exercise.
