Tuning Device?

Hello,

Looking into getting a tune for my 22 XL.

I have combed through a lot of the tuning threads on here to see which company to go with and have mostly decided on going with Unleashed, based mostly on their seemingly glowing customer service.

However, I am completely new to tuning, and having a vehicle that can be tuned. With that being said, I am totally at a loss at which tuning device to go with.

It looks like Unleashed website has the SCT X4, SCT BDX, and SCT Livewire.

I guess my question is which device should I go for? And what are the differences?

The BDX is the newer version of the X4. It has the ability to down load custom tunes directly to the unit over WiFi. The X4 the tune is emailed to you, you down load it to your PC, then use SCT software to transfer it to the X4.

The LiveWire has a bigger display that is also a touch screen. It is a good choice if you plan to leave it permanently attached to the vehicle to monitor engine functions. The X4 and BDX will display engine functions to but the displays are smaller and not as easy to see.

I purchased my X4 in 2013 and used it to tune my 13 Focus ST, then my 15 Mustang and now my 21 Ranger. I would think that SCT would be discontinuing the X4 at some point. Everything I have seen is the X4 and BDX are the same price. That being the case I would go for the BDX just because it is a current model. Otherwise they do the same job.

If you are going with Unleashed buy the tuner from them too, it will be less expensive than buying the tuner from one place then go to Unleashed for the custom tune.

Note: SCT provides canned tunes with the device too. I tried their's before the Unleashed tune and it was very good power wise but did not address the changes I wanted in the transmission calibration.

This is exactly what I was looking for!

I'm leaning towards the Livewire because I enjoy watching data, I assume the livewire can do everything the BDX does?

I wouldn't be suprised if it gives what you want. I myself went with Livernois and really liked the data I was able to get(even though I wish I saw the PSI reading for boost).

I myself would monitor Coolant temp, Cylinder Head temp(both are great to see if you have a coolant leak before its too late) Transmission Temp, Catalytic temp(calculated but better then nothing) then manifold pressure with barometric pressure for boost reading.

For me that worked well since I wasn't concerned about other things.

I too have the X4 purchased from Unleashed to tune my 2013 Focus ST, then my 2017 Focus ST and now my 2019 Ranger. Easy to use…..load the tune then put it in the glove box. You can’t go wrong with a tune from Unleashed!! Torrie is a Ecoboost master!
