I'm ready to pull the trigger on a tune, but not sure which one to go with. I've narrowed it down to Livernois and Unleashed. Can some of you who have them help me out with a couple questions?

Do I need to have the programmer on my dash all of the time? I know I can install, detach and run, but does the info displayed while driving really help? Or is it for those who are pushing limits or OCD about every detail?

Unleashed lists the price for each tune wanted. Since I want an 87 performance, a 93 performance, and a tow. I'm thinking I need to get 3 separate custom tunes. Am I correct on this?

Livernois doesn't list how many tunes you get for the $600 package. Anyone here know how many tunes this includes?

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Normally you get one tune with the tuner package, then a small fee for additional tunes ordered at the same time. Sometime they run specials, I got 3 tunes for the price of one with a 5* special.

Unleashed for sure. Great customer service and I think you get 3 tunes with the deal. If you want it tweaked for any of the tunes Torrie is on it fast. As many times as necessary. Don’t think you get that personalized service with the Ford tune.

Livernois gives you 5 (soft shifts x 2, performance x 2, and a tow tune). If you have a 2021 model just be aware that tuners appear to be struggling with the traction control kicking in at highway speeds. No solution yet. Don't think the 19s and 20s have this issue.

You don't need anything on your dash for it to work.

Those answers are about as definitive as you will get on the internet. You should be asking the people who you are giving $600 to how their stuff works.

I went with unleashed, 91 daily/tow and 91 performance. No regrets. Very smooth and lots of power on tap. Plus the excellent customer service from Torrie and I am a very happy customer.

I did e-mail the companies, but get short answers that don't completely answer what I want. So I'm coming to the community for answers from people that have gone through the experience.

Torrie didn't list exactly which tunes he offers.

I know I don't need the unit on my dash, but why do some people have it there? Obviously some want it since both companies offer a dash/windshield mount.

I load the tune, disconnect the tuner and put the tuner in the glove box.

I know this will sound lame, but if you do a search on Livernois, you'll find every answer to every question you can think off on this forum, including it's own dedicated 65 page thread and several dyno screen shots...and probably the same for unleashed. Try it.

I did. I don't reach out for opinions often and do so reluctantly. I searched the threads for a few days actually. That's how I narrowed it down to these two. (Even spent a long time reading the heated debate about the 5 Star quality and blown engine). The specific questions I posted here weren't anywhere to be found. I'm still not sure WHY anyone wants to mount the tuner. I didn't even bother to mention my concerns over octane choices since that seems to be only slightly less heated than the usual forums "what motor oil do you use" threads.

The tuners can offer additional gauges for display.

Folks that mount the tuners like to have access to data that the truck won't display normally, it makes a good companion if you want to focus on the details before/after a mod, to see how the tune is behaving by tracking different parameters or keep an eye on specific temperatures instead of the dial on the instrument cluster.

It is definitely not required to have the tuner mounted and showing data, as others have said, but anyone who wants to track different things or visualize changes can now have numbers and data to do so.

Edit: I am running the Livernois tow tune as my daily and do not currently mount and watch any extra data. I used to do it in my Fiesta ST to datalog, for refining custom tunes.

Unleashed I cant speak for but i can speak for Livernois.

To start off you do not need to run the tuner on the dash or windshield at all times inorder to run the tune. If im not mistaken this is the same for all tunes that actually tune.

For Livernois you get 3(ok technically up to 5) tunes. Tow tune wich is flex from 87 to 93(will probably be ok with hogher OCTANE in low quantity), the low octane performance tune(87 to 89) and the high octane performance tune(91 to 93). Where did 90 octane go? Dont know but then again I havent seen 90 octane before.

But wait a second!! I said there were 5 tunes!!! What about the pther two?!?!?!?!?! Well the performance tunes have an optional soft shift wich basically keeps the stock transmission shift patterns.

Now you wonder how the overall performance and response is? Well to say the least i feel it is worth it!! I first ran the high performance tune in the truck and i definitely felt the performance difference from stock. Was the transmission rough? Absolutely and that is due to the fact the transmission had to relearn from the flash tune. After a few weeks the Tow tune became available and I got it real quick!!! To say the least I like the tow tune better in the truck over the performance tune. Why you ask? Well for one I own a TRUCK!!!! With me owning a truck I am most likely to do truck stuff like puttung stuff in the bed and towing here and there!!!! ....... I know.... Weird...... With that said I wanted to beable to do that stuff without reflashing the PCM. Why? Because I dont want to deal woth transmission relearn if I dont have too. Also I have noticed the truck seems to have a better overall performance with the tow tune. How? Well instead of focusing on max power it focuses on efficiency!! The low end torque is felt a bit more I think.

Now you wonder how long i have ran the tune right? Well time we are talking a little over a year. Mileage on the other hand, we are talking at least 25,000 miles overall. I cant remember what the miles were when i got the tow tune. If not mistaken I think i have right about 28,000 miles runing the tune so fan and my truck has 45,500 if that tells you anything.

Any powertrain problems? Not on my end but then again I'm not the other forum members on here that may have run into problems.

Hope this helps!!!
