Glad you got it fixed under warranty...nothing to worry about since you now have another 3 years and unlimited miles covered...not need to put miles on it unnecessarily...

@AzScorpion add this thread to the the Wiki...
Says the record holder for most miles on an NA 5g ranger. ?

At least it is lovable and doesn't have personality disorders like Robert Downey Jrs character in tropic thunder.

This was a 2019 right? Has the cause been worked out since in mfg?

This has been an issue across models since this transmission was introduced. A couple of years before the first 5G Ranger. I believe it came out in 2017 (as 2018 models) and has been used since.

The way mine downshifts coming to a stop , i fully expect it to need something metal inside replaced someday...
My years of driving manual transmissions screams at me to just put it neutral and let the brakes do the work if it can’t handle the downshift. It’s only when I don’t brake slowly that the hard downshift occurs for me though.

We shouldn't have to think so much about driving any automatic and tailor our driving around trying to have it not shift weird or break. It is insane. I would much rather have the 7-speed manual in the Bronco over this thing. I mean after working for two years on getting the tune nailed down as best I can with Torrie to mitigate the transmission issues and make it shift better as much as possible, I should never have had to go through all of that to begin with.

I don't let this kind of thing worry me. And IMO, OP should have got a new trans, not a rebuilt one.

Yeah mine with 6000 feels like I’ll be needing a new one soon. Hoping it just fully blows up so I don’t have to do the runaround with the dealer. Easier to show them something is wrong with the transmission when it’s in pieces in the bed of the truck ?
22K miles and same. My hope is that the current amount of lurch when slowing down is normal and it will just do that its whole long life. I plan on keeping the truck 10-20 years. 2 years down, 8-18 left.

I completely agree with this. My old '04 Hyundai Elantra 4 spd auto never had any rough shifting or weird quirks. I like to say that it's a truck and it's not the same, but it should be better not worse than a 20yr old econobox.

Here’s the rental. I will say transmission is 1000 times smoother in the Frontier but the Ranger handles better and has way more power. Frontier mechanically feels older and slower but maybe that’s what we need lol. Btw this was a 23 model Enterprise car rental had and as usual tires are 10 pounds overinflated.

Haha if you mixed both characters together you’d have my transmission. Really weird. Shifting got slightly better the last day or so but still only skips second gear and hits all the rest unless you really brake hard. Haven’t heard the turbo spool up in about two weeks. They were so backed up he said transmission guy wouldn’t be able to drive with me. WARNING!!! FULL BLOWN KAREN STYLE RANT INCOMING…well because its healthier for me to vent to strangers on the internet that my wife lol. As usual I was very respectful at the dealership. I can suppress my anger into the form of a brain tumor that’ll show up later in life. That I’m fine with. Lol. Now the waiting game to hear everything is normal yet the truck drove great the first few weeks. Praying there are a few codes or something thrown so a problem is indicated. I’m a very cynical person when it comes to expecting things will get done right. Been about 6 months of just crap. We moved across country and had issues with the moving company charging us 12k more than the quote, showing up three days late, their truck wasn’t big enough for all our stuff, arrived with our stuff on a Sunday unannounced with no way for us to pay (Banks are closed on Sunday’s), number of lost/broken items, then storage place not telling us they lost AC in the unit all summer (7 grand worth of telescopes/ self stabilizing binoculars, and custom made fishing rods loved that). We also had our initial house get bought out from under us do to a clerical error (house way already in contract and selling company didn’t communicate within) That one ended up being a blessing in disguise but man it’s hard to find businesses that are competent. I’m not Gods gift to the world by any means but a little proper communication goes a long way. Dealer told me they can’t look the truck for three days so they couldn’t give me a rental. I asked them then why didn’t they set my appointment for three days down the road so they could look at it then and see something’s wrong then issue the rental. I was told on the phone the dealership would have it for three days to “diagnose” it and that I could drive with someone to show them the issues when I dropped it off. I figured it would be yep, something wrong here’s your rental. Maybe, just maybe there is still someone who won’t try to ruin me. Sometimes you just have to laugh at shit. Oh and I’m laughing just reading back through this post. It’s been an interesting few months to say the least.

That was my plan, keep this truck for 8 years then give it to my oldest son. At this rate I’ll be lucky if I make it to next week lol. I am worried though that if the transmission issues get sorted out, this truck is fast and I know how dumb kids are. I picture him being a total idiot in Sport mode. I know I would have been if I didn’t get a little 4 cyl Tacoma when I first started driving. Governor hit at 104 on that truck ?. Never was able to get it to go faster…I tried a lot.
