On those long downhills I set the cruise with it in "D" and it will downshift to 6th and hold there. Keeps it from accelerating down the hill.
Yes. I have noticed that cruise does a nice job with it.

I should clarify... the roads I'll be on starting tomorrow are not roads on which you'd ever use cruise. Hence my "use trailer mode" comment.

Just found this thread while sitting in the truck in my driveway.... barley made it home. I have a 2023 Tremor with 39k miles.... transmission just failed this morning. Picked up coffee and got approximately a third of the way to my destination when it happened. It started by up-shifting and slipping as it rowed its way through the gears, then a complete loss of power as the flashing wrench appeard on my dash. Managed to limp it home in sport mode using 2nd gear with it whining the whole way. Pulled in the driveway, started to buck, then coasted to the front of my garage door. Now I can't say for certain, but I'll bet my left peanut that this premature failure is related to the truck putting itself in 4-low at 45mph back when it had only 6k miles on the odometer. Anyway, it's off to the dealer tomorrow, followed by a phone call to my attorney if Ford decides to give me a hard time ?

Look at my posts in the thread Another Ranger with transmission problems.
I took mine in for less problems than you and it was a completely covered repair under warranty. You shouldn't have any issues at all with the severity of your issues.

Ford knows these suck and even fix them out of warranty to avoid a class action. Even though they have the same mess as the focus transmissions. They all essentially suck. 5r100 and 6r80 were the last decent designs by ford. They were truly rock solid.

The 10R60 is just a lighter capacity version of the 10R80. The 10R60 wasn’t developed yet when Ford released the 5G in 2019 so they put the 10R80 in them. The 10R60 has been out since 2020. And has been used in the 2020-2025 Ford Explorer, Aviator, Transit, and the 2021-2025 Bronco.

Hey Chris,

Boy, I hope they cover it. I'm having to rent a trailer and an F-250 to tow it to another dealer 30 miles from home. On my last visit, my local dealer told me they refuse to work on my trucks drivetrain due to the mods I've made (lift, 34" tires, etc...). We'll see what the dealer in Waco tells me.... fingers crossed.

Derek,

Yeah, I'm not impressed. I've been a Ford guy my whole life.... raced 2 mustangs back in my 20's (road and drag). Feel a bit let down lately by Ford. Anyway, we'll see what happens come this Tuesday.

Based on my test drive of a new 2025 Ranger and the way it clunked into 4th gear, I'd say they still have some improvements to make.

Off to the dealer in Waco it went. So far my experience with the service writer's been positive. He seems confident Ford will replace the trans under warranty. Fingers are crossed, and I'll update when more info is available.
