So I sprung for a set of Cooper Rugged Treks in XL rating. Can't find anywhere on the Cooper website, they won't return my emails. Anyone have a recommendation on tire pressure when towing (4500lb TT)? Sidewall says max 50psi, discount tire installed them at 35 psi, and my door panel says 30psi

This is real easy. The tire pressure that your tire should be at when towing or unloaded is on the door placard. It says 30 PSI on the door placard? Then you need to put them at 30 psi. Keep in mind that it's going to be cold pressure. If you've been driving for a while then you are no longer at cold pressure.

To give you an idea with my 2019 Ranger that I had factory tires 32s and 33s on, I had no problems running 30 PSI when towing. It handled the load just fine

If it were me, I'd run em solo at 35 psi and bump them up to 40 front/45 rear when towing.
Backround....I run Yokohama G015 E rated 10 ply on mine. Run 35 solo and 40 front/45-50 rear (700 lb hitch tongue weight)

I’ve been running the 265/70/17 Rugged Treks for roughly 45k miles. I have the LT E rated tires. For me around 45 psi cold is where they ride the best and the chalk test confirmed it. Cooper suggested 42-45 as well. We have different tires, but that’s the best help I have lol. I tow my boat a lot. It’s roughly 3500lbs. I towed it from Charleston to the keys last year and from Here to Captiva Island the year before. If I can find the guy from Cooper Ties contact I’ll send it to you. I think I posted his email on here before.

Hello Andy,

Thanks for your email. Because you went from a standard load, 4-ply rated tire to a load range E, 10-ply rated tire, you can bump the air pressure up a little bit. We would recommend between 42 to 45 psi.

Have a Great Day!!!

I normally up the front by 5psi and the rear by 10psi, sometimes 15 if I've also got gear in the bed of the truck.

For those questioning, this particular vehicle here calls for 35 PSI from the factory in stock configuration. Obviously you can tell it is far from stock configuration and I still run it at 35 PSI. Guess what!? It still does just fine with 35 PSI even while towing. Increasing tire pressure just because you're towing is not exactly the best practice for all vehicles. Technology has come a long way.

The only real reason people would increase their tire pressure in the past is because you had bias ply tires versus radial ply tires. Radial ply tires were a huge improvement and many seemed to think that they were flat because it wasn't rounded. This was a common thing when Radial tires were introduced.

If you want to believe in that ScamOil garbage, the. Keep doing what you are doing and let us know when the engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced due to lack of maintenance........ Even you should know better then that. There is a reason why Vehicle Manufacturers state an oil change interval regardless of what oil you use. There is also a good reason why many Reputable Oil Companies including Mobile, Motul, Castrol and Valvoline state to follow the OEM Recommend Interval.

When towing, you can go all the way to max pressure but generally, depending on the tire I will be within 5-10psi of max pressure. The k03 for example, I usually run them around 34-36psi depending on my mood. Towing 40-42psi. Max pressure on the tire I think is 50psi. Only time I might go up to say 48psi is if I am heavily loaded or will have heavy winds, then I might do 48-50psi.

I thought the same but I had my Ranger engine replaced at 50k miles lol. 5k full synthetic oil changes. #4 rod bearing toasted. I am sure it was just bad luck, maybe covid QC issue being a 2021. Here I am with 60k miles now and no tranny replacement yet. I have extended but REALLY hope I don't have an issue with it right after warranty is up. Did first trans fluid around 35k miles, probably having it done again on the next oil change.
