Does anyone know what size ball we can put on the back of the Ranger and what size shank it is? I'm talking without the towing package....

Forget the bumper hole for a ball. As posted, spend the $$ for a dedicated receiver hitch.
If you mount a ball on your bumper, you will surely put a dent in your tailgate...it only takes one time missing the ball or not stopping in time .
Receiver hitch will be a lot cheaper than body work.

Let’s see if we can get Dave to rename this thread to “Biggest balls, no lift?” ?

I think the shank size is 3/4". You can pop the cap off and measure it to be sure.
However because the back end of the Ranger is pretty high you may find that your trailer is at an uncomfortable angle. Bumper ball is the equivalent of a Class II hitch and good for 3500 lb.
As far as the size of the ball itself it depends on the trailer tongue, most trailers use a 1 7/8" or 2" ball.

However big it needs to be for the trailer you are towing assuming its within your towing capacity
