Anyone with an aftermarket hitch want to measure their ball height for me? I'm renting a U-Haul trailer and they say ball height should be between 18 1/4-18 3/4 inches. I bought the draw-tite hitch that will be here Tuesday but I need to know what ball mount drop I need.
I've got one with a 2" drop from my old F-150 but I have a feeling that may be too low.

Rear suspension is stock on a 4x4 xlt.
Thanks!

Update for anyone interested that follows up.
This is the 3 1/4 inch drop hitch.

Just measured mine with a 2" drop, top of ball is at 22 1/2 which puts top of ball level with top of receiver. Stock Lariat FX4 suspension, factory receiver, don't know if this helps you as not aftermarket.

Thanks for that. I know the aftermarket hitch is going to be a bit lower, but shouldn't be that much.

I actually did the same calculations today (also renting a u-haul trailer soon). I have 1” lift blocks in the back and sitting on 285’s - I think a 2” drop is perfect for me. Would guess stock you’d want a mount with no drop ideally.

There's a possibility you might want a little bit more drop. I do have a lift on my Ranger. The rear got lifted by 1.6 in in the front by 2.4 in. I ended up using the five inch drop and the trailer was still a little high. I hope this information helps you out

My dad has a 3 1/4" drop if I need it.

I would take it with you just in case. In all honesty I just towed a U-Haul 5 by 9 utility trailer and I needed a little bit more than just a 5-inch drop for my ball.

I've actually been looking at this myself, as I need to get a ball mount for my draw-tite hitch to tow a u-haul trailer. The hitch is about 19.25 inches from the ground to the top of the tube on my stock XL 4x4. A 2-inch drop would put it at 17.25 inches. I figure the middle of the ball (the basis for U-haul's height recommendation) should be about 1.5 inches above the surface of the ball mount, putting it right at 18.75 inches.

I have an xlt 4x4 17 in. wheels. (All stock) I put on a curt aftermarket hitch with a 2 in. drop for the ball. The top of the ball is exactly 20 in. for me.

Do you factor in that the ball will move down maybe an inch or two when you connected the trailer? The trailer weight on the tongue will push the ball down, thus lowering its height.

Depending on the trailer and the load you put on the trailer will depend. A basic 5x9 uhaul with little weight doesnt affect it much. An auto transport from uhaul is a whole different story
