Throttle Body Upgrade?

Isn’t it about time someone released a 65mm throttle body for our trucks? I’m running out of bolt-ons for my ‘22 and basically have done everything save for changing out the downpipe and exhaust (saving for last). I saw the boomba TB spacer/intake manifold spacer combo, but I feel like for the price, a throttle body would be a better bet.

I found the post on here with the bloke that sent his out for machining, and I’m thinking maybe just pick up a stock TB from a junk yard and send that out. Thoughts? I assume they do a new throttle plate too while they’re at it?

I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze here.
Is the throttle body slightly constricted For the plenum volume? Wouldn’t he need a slightly larger turbo for it to truly make a difference? And that would put him in to build out the internals?….
Or is the comment surface value….
cost per gain just ain’t there and he should just get a nice DP and exhaust?
I gotta a pretty good feeling there isn’t a simple answer to all that..
I do know you know your stuff, so that’s why I’m kinda asking for clarification on the juice not being worth it.
I want my truck to breathe easy with some good go… throttle body mod has interested me… but part of me thinks bigger is better, part of me thinks balance is key, and part thinks maybe the throttle body mod is just one of those yeah I have that flex’s.

If he were going with a much larger turbo with a really high flow setup (generally porting things... but that's a bit more involved on this engine), then a larger TB may help. In the past, could see some gains on NA engines, but in this application, we have boost and particularly on a stock turbo, I'd be surprised if there were any gains.

You also may find with a larger TB that some tuning needs to done to model airflow for things like getting the engine to come back down to idle nicely. Not a big issue, but something that may need addressed.

All that said, I'd put money towards a bigger turbo before messing with a throttle body. And I still probably wouldn't look to do anything with the throttle body. I see it along the lines of building an NA engine to be pretty high strung for as much money as it would be to turbo the same engine for the same'ish price and make twice the power. I just don't see the value in a larger throttle body.

I would get a performance exhaust before I would worry about the TB. More bang for the buck IMO. At least that was my experience with the Gibson dual rear exit exhaust.

With my experience with the Ranger, it is hard to say that throttle body will be necessary. Yes a bigger opening can be helpful as long as it's not too much. Doing the throttle body usually helps with throttle lag down low, but the most I noticed with the Ranger down low was Turbo Lag. Unfortunately a throttle body won't fix that. A throttle body can also help with the top end, but you have to take into account for how often you are going to be up there(not as often as you think you will BTW).

Now don't get me wrong. On my 2012 Frontier I did upgrade the throttle body on it. The Factory throttle body is 70 mm and the Jet throttle body I got us 71.2 mm. Though it isn't a whole lot, it definitely helped with throttle lag down below and the top end isn't as restricted.

Just some things to consider

CVF downpipe and Gibson dual exit exhaust are a marriage made in heaven! Not real loud just a great tone and performance.
And a tune from Torrie@unleashed.

With your own experience of having it bored out a little, how much of a difference did it make? Include the good and bad from what you can tell
