Things I feel are missing/or needed on a Ranger

I am an old guy. To get in the bed I step on the bumper and swing my leg over the still closed tailgate easy even for me. Yesterday I was able to step on the tire and get into the bed easy even for me. Me thinks that some of you arent really truck people, probably should have bought a SUV or a car. Maybe on future year trucks Ford will add optional trinkets, do dads, and gizmos to play with. And then they will be $50,000.

I'm curious what you mean by "fully automatic mirrors"? Most trim levels come with electric adjustable side mirrors (folding) and the Lariat comes with an auto dimming rear view mirror. What else could you want?

I ordered it from carid.com in December and they have called me twice telling me it is delayed.

Well they pushed back the release date twice, no idea when carid will really have this tailgate assist. Hell, isn't just a hood shock modified?

Any word about Panda Motorsports having one?

The last change I got now put the carid one out next January. I finally cancelled my order as that would have been over a year.

No ETA on the Panda one that I've heard. My excitement for this has waned a bit. While it is a neat thing, as I'm using my truck now, it isn't really necessary.

I was surprised by this type of offering. Would have never thought about tailgate effort with an aluminum tailgate...quite light weight for my anemic 70 old arms...

Does bring a smile to me wrt the little old ladies that volunteer as gardeners at the Fairlane Estates (Henry Ford's home). They were donated an F350 Dual Rear Wheel Crewcab 4x4 for their gardening. Most of these ladies were so tiny that the tailgate latch was a reach, and the tailgate down was about where their nose was. My Ranger engineers and I volunteered a few times a year as a community project to assist these lovely ladies. I saw this vehicle as an albatross for them so I got permission to donate a little 4x2 Regular cab Ranger to them...When I delivered them the vehicle they were in tears...just what they needed...The tailgate on the F350 was so heavy they dreaded opening it. One of these dampers would have helped, but a smaller vehicle was probably better for them...

They were so grateful that they gave me a tour of parts of Fairlane that are not for the public. I was taken up to the attic where among the artifacts was Edsel Ford's cradle...what a rare opportunity...

It isn't the effort, it is (I think) the "cool" factor of opening the tailgate and watching it go down slowly without slamming. I've lived without it for 20 years and this tailgate is probably the easiest to open and close.

I agree. Now that I'm using it, not a big deal. I canceled my order too.

The problem isn't that we don't want one. The problem is the number of reviewers who are floored by it's non-inclusion on the Ranger. The number of reviews that drop the bed and go "uh-oh, no damping!"

The only thing that truly bothers me about items missing, is the ignition switch bezel on XL and XLT trims. That's truly a bullshit item to leave out.

I'm glad there's no motor shroud on my XLT though. Nice to open my hood and actually see my engine!

Totally agree - that is complete and total miss by Ford. It just makes it looks crappy and cheap and it would have cost them literally pennies (I'm sure - for a part ordered in bulk).

I don't have the issue with the Lariat. I LOVE the keyless entry and push button start. Too bad they don't allow you to upgrade to that on the XLT. The two huge things on the Lariat for me were the keyless entry and the LED lighting.

A few other things too.

Though, I love the headlight cluster design of the XLT more when the lighting is off.
