I was trying to make it a more logical decision rather than an emotional one. In the end, I chose the Lariat, and all the numbers supported that decision. Basically the spreadsheet just had features running down the left side that were important to me, and then 3 columns for each truck and whether each satisfied the feature. Some ended up being a Tie. A point for each feature win and then I totaled up all the points for grand totals. I even did a few weighted ones - for features I felt were MORE important than others. Those were given a higher weight. It was a really interesting exercise, but I spent WAY too long on it. I kept second guessing myself....
I went through the same gyration but without the spreadsheet. I was able to eliminate all of the other brands for various reasons then it came down to an XLT or Lariat. The XLT I configured was only <1k less than the Lariat I configured and I couldn't get the exterior options I wanted without another option dropping off. I was on the fence with the leather seating. With the Lariat, I could get the LED lighting and really the exact look I wanted so the choice became pretty easy for me.

Yeah, I waffled back and forth on the Lariat vs XLT and what I came out with was the XLT as I wanted it configured wasn't much less than the Lariat and I lost the leather seats and LED Lights - both of which I wanted. So it made it an easy decision.

Larger capacity fuel tank.
Lol, you must have watched TFL's latest review. It does appear on paper to be a hair too small given the competition, even with the advantage in mileage.

Would be nice to be on par with the competition or higher as another selling feature. But I'm also spoiled by the 36 gallon tank in my F150.

The size of the fuel tank is not the controlling factor for me...The size of my bladder is. About 350 miles and I'm looking for a place to stop. So I'm fine with it. I have been in an F150 with 2.7/36 gallon combo and cluster showed 975 miles to empty at fill up.

I'd like a 35 gallon tank too. It would match up perfect with my Kroger fuel points 35 gallon discount limit..... :)

They existing on the aftermarket abroad. A 140L tank is roughly 36 gallons or double the factory gas tank.

Edit: Another good option is an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed. I think they make them for midsize trucks and you could always remove it when you need the full bed.
I hate to point out one small fact those are diesel non NA rangers.

Whether the gas tank is 18 gallon or 180 gallon, it doesn't really make a difference to me. You end up paying the same in the end and it's not a huge hassle to stop for 2 or 3 minutes to fill it up again. If anything, smaller would be better since it is less weight to cut into payload capacity or more weight for the engine to push along and cutting into the mpg advantage. All that fuel adds weight.

Be interesting to see what the fuel economy drops to when towing as it relates to having to stop frequently to fill up. My buddies F150 with 2.7 with the 23 gallon tank averages around 10 mpg when towing a boat. We typically stop every couple hundred miles or so to fuel up to avoid fuel pump overheating. If the Ranger averages 10 mpg towing that would mean stopping every 160 miles or so. It’s a minor annoyance, so having a 25 gallon tank option would be nice to get to that 3 hour mark.

Add one more vote for a bigger gas tank. My 80 mile round trip commute means I'll be in for gas every fourth day. My 500hp commuter car does that now.

I would also vote fro more cold weather equipment, heated steering wheel and windshield in particular. Even in parts of SoCal we get freezing temps overnight for several months of the year.

The F150 comes stock with a 23 gallon tank. If course, it's probably a different shape but wouldn't it be cool if that tank fit? I think that's my only complaint based on what I know so far. My Canyon has a 19 gallon tank and gets 18-24. It actually gets around 17 or so in the terrible traffic I drive in. But to me a 23 gallon tank would be great.

I mentioned this a page or two back. I'll be towing a ~2300# boat regularly, with some long road trips. I need to make the destination without having to burn 15 minutes of daybreak for every fuel stop.

While I’ve been driving around town in my new Ranger these are a few things I miss from my previous vehicle (16 Subaru Outback 3.6r)
• moonroof
• seat placement memory buttons
• paddle shifter, by steering wheel
——-
Wish list
• FX4 package should come with all-weather rubber floor mats
• electronic locking/ dampening tailgate
• wireless charging
• usb in middle storage console, also should be much more stable seems a bit unsteady.
• pen holder in center console doesn’t latch to thicker pens.
• front lockers
• more skid plates for the FX4 package
