The smart headlights that could make night-driving MUCH easier: Ford is testing technology that projects directions, speed limits and weather informat

Subaru calls them steering responsive headlights and they do actually help.
Did all the Tucker headlights turn or just the center one? I think it was called the cyclops eye in the center.
I just looked it up and Tucker had the center light that moved with the steering. The outer two straight ahead (or wherever they were adjusted to.. ;)).

I'd love to see this design in more vehicles today. Where I lived back in MA there were no street light anywhere except through the center of town. Going through the mountain roads with all the curves these would've been really helpful in alleviating the dark blindspots.

Here the roads are all very well lit but I don't drive much at all now at night. When I do it's definitely more difficult to see than it was a few years ago. Darn I hate getting older! ?

not exactly a new or innovative idea as some 1940s cars had headlights that rotated with the steering wheel, most notorious was the Tucker that had a center rotating headlamp.

We have a ton of deer that like to jump from the edge of the road and the LEDs combined with the side movement make a big difference in being able to catch them when they take that first jump. The only thing better would be have the ability to raise the top of the LED higher based on speed when there are no cars coming in the opposite direction.

Maybe they should look into developing a headlight lens that doesn't get hazy after a couple of years. Sorta like the glass ones they used to use, maybe?
Keep it out of the sun, or get some UV protectant on there. Seems simple to me.

That is primarily why I bought those DD SS3 Pro fog lights to replace my fogs on the Ranger. They are very bright and have a cutoff so don't bother oncoming traffic, with a very wide spread.

We don't have a lot of fog (although we do occasionally have some heavy snow), but we certainly have a lot of deer in the shadows waiting to commit suicide on those dark country roads... ;)

My comment was , "Don't want to see ads projected on the road ahead of you ? Purchase the ad free headlights for $8.99 per month !"

Simply because I can see them trying it ,LOL

The Focus ST had lights that followed the steering wheel but this is kind of absurd. Yeah... What I need is Waze to feed me vague directions on the road in front of me where I can't ignore it. ?

"Keep it out of the sun" seems absurd for a motor vehicle. Sorta like "keep your boat away from water".
I'm not talking about some vampire car.

I'm talking about not letting your vehicle bake in the UV all day long.

Look every vehicle with those nasty yellowed headlights and that's not the only problem. The rest of the exterior is just as beat.

I've had plastic lensed vehicles for the last 25 years. Not one of them has yellowed up. In those 25 years I've kept my vehicles garaged while at home, and I've worked either 3rd shift or had a company vehicle the entire time.

Fact is sunlight damages clear plastic. And headlights are going to be made of clear plastic for the time being. Again, it's quite simple, avoid the problem, protect against it, or repair it when it happens.

I agree with this observation.

I have had a number of vehicles with the clear plastic covers over the headlights and never had any yellowing, fogging, crazing (one truck was 14 years old).

The only thing I can attribute it to is all were garage kept when not in use.

Nobody ever listens.

It has UV protection and it can be used on plastic, glass, metal and rubber trim. ?
