I recently bought a rubber bed mat from Rough Country. Now, I am looking for a similar look to cover the tailgate. I’d like rubber like the bed mat but it seems like the only option is to cut something my own. I purchased a BedRug mat but carpet looks out of place with the rubber. Any suggestions?

Yes, it uses existing screws in the tailgate. It comes with longer screws, and inserts with the collar that is visible in the picture that keeps it from moving around.
The other thing I like about it over a rubber cover is that is it "slick", so your load slides right over it, but not so slick that you can still walk on it when you get up in the bed.

I keep an old throw rug in the back to use to protect my knees when climbing in. Also doubles as a cushion for changing a tire or whatever. ?

Thanks for the info, I'm looking for a tail gate mat as well.
I ordered one from the Ford dealer and its missing the accessories/ plastic insert where the screws goes in. I had to wait another week. I can see 7 inserts from your pics, how many are there total?

Apologies for replying to an old post, but did you order this separately and can you confirm the hardware is included now? I saw an older post indicating no washers/longer screws were included.

I'm also interested if this would work over a spray-in. picked up some small dents with my first load, and while it is a truck, i'm not sure if my spray-in will do much to mitigate that. Debating a tailgate mat and bedmat for heavy/hard loads.

I bought a bedrug mat that has the extra length to cover the gate also. There are different models, with and without the gate cover. It attaches using 3m tape/velcro and works with the spray in liner.

I do not have the spray in bed liner.
Mine came with all the inserts and longer screws.
If no hardware in the package, I'd refuse it on the spot.

Anyone have recommendations for inside tailgate protection? I have the Ford bed mat and a BakFlip MX4 cover, but would like something to protect the tailgate. Already getting kind of rough from sliding things across it.

Doesn't the Ford mat come with a rubber pad to mount to the tailgate

Yeah, looks like the Ford tailgate cover would be the answer. I have the factory spray-in which is really nice too.
