that seems pretty useful if you're in and out of bed alot. Especially how tall the tailgate is on new Rangers. I always wondered why they didnt build in something like this. or a folding ramp or something.

When we load the kayaks on the roof of the cab, we end up having to bring along a step ladder to walk them up into the bed and slide the kayaks forward into the roof racks. I'm capable of jumping up onto the lowered tailgate, though it's not easy, and certainly not while also carrying a kayak.

I've always thought it would've been nice to offer the tailgate steps that F-150s can come with. That would be perfect. Would cause the tailgate to get heavier, but then just install a damper as well. But since that's not an option, these look like good alternatives.

Thanks for sharing, I'll definitely think about trying something like this!

Anyone out there in Ranger land tried to install a folding ladder on their 2019 Ranger tailgate. Not sure about this since there are wires and such in the tailgate. Thought about this https://www.carid.com/traxion/tailgate-truck-ladder-mpn-5-100.html?singleid=408967497 or this one https://www.carid.com/similar-products/traxion/5-100/code-8569c9966eaf376d88344231001ed953?filter=1&field[367146][1]=Tailgate+Ladders

I really, really, really miss the tailgate step after having one on my F250 for 8 years. Was thinking about throwing an old plastic stool in the bed like I did with my old F250 that didn't yet offer the tailgate step.

I just had to get up into the bed tonight after dinner to make a return at Lowe's and was groaning about not having that d&*# tailgate step.

The bed of the Ranger is pretty darn close to the height of the full size trucks when not too terribly loaded. I'm too freakin old to be putting all that stress on my knees getting up into that little truck, and sometimes I'm not dressed in sloppy enough pants for the 'butt on first and spin my legs up onto the tailgate' method.

Looked them over and not sure any of those "ladders" would work for me with the way I use the bed and tailgate. Probably need to wait for someone like AMP research to come up with some sort of retractable rear step setup. Might just have to reach out to them to see if they have anything in the works.

There are steps that slide into the hitch (like a ball mount). Maybe one of those might be an option for you.

Hitch mount creates a potential issue because I typically have one of 2 different hitches sitting in my receiver at any given time, but it is something I should consider. Just means I'd be swapping between 4 items - 2 hitches, Lund load extender, and a hitch mounted step.

I did find this unit that might possibly work in my situation, as the tailgate mounting bracket is not too terribly obtrusive, and the handle and step unit is removable:

I 'almost' bought one of those for the Sport Trac I used to own. I finally opted to not buy as I didn't want the obstruction in the way every time I dropped the tailgate to load something in the bed.

End bed step.
This is listed for ext can and not crew cab. Anyone know if there is a difference? As the bed room comes from cab size I would think the design of rear of bed and mounting point being the same.

Thanks

I had one like this on my 2017 Tacoma and it was GREAT! Interesting that the picture shows it on a Super Crew 4-door version of the ROW Ranger! If this actually fits the NA Super Crew I'm in!

Bestop has their Trekstep for the Ranger now. It's on back-order, of course, like just about everything else....

Pic shows a side mounted one, but product description and install instructions show it at the rear

https://www.bestop.com/products/trekstep-rear-mount-step---ford-2019-2020-ranger-driver-side/

I did see that one, but didn't notice it was actually the rear mount, but sure enough, the instructions are for the rear mount. That's the one I'll get once it comes back in stock. Good catch, thanks.

I think the problem with the hitch mounted steps is that it's only useful when the tailgate is up, and I hardly ever have to get into the bed when the tailgate is up. And if I do, the area near the license plate is basically a built in center step already. The problem is stepping into the bed when the tailgate is down and I can't use the bumper as a step. For me at least.
