Hey everyone! I have been needing to replace my tires to get ones that will better serve me in the winter. I was going to get the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.
However, I have also been considering replacing my 18 inch wheels with smaller 16 inch steel wheels (I like the look better and I feel that more tire will serve me better off-road)

So my new tire size would be 265/75R16 with steel wheels. Just wondering what kind of negative side effects I might experience from this change? Is this a stupid move?

I'm fly. I'm pilot.
Don't know for certain, but make sure a 16" wheel will clear the brakes.

Use this tire calculator to compare sizes, to make sure you are getting the dimensions you want.

My Lariat was equipped with 18" chrome wheels, and the spare was 16" steel. It will work the same on yours, as long as you are using the OE steel wheels. Aftermarket may be different. I switched to the 17" painted alloys. No rust, cheap and plentiful on eBay.

We already know that 16 inch wheels will fit since the XL comes with them. More tire for Offroad? Absolutely a great idea and a proven idea that works. That size should also fit with no need for a lift. In all honesty if you are willing to spend the money I say go for it.

I will add as a side note that you would be best to get a true snow tire vs an all terrain or mud terrain for winter conditions. You will thank me for this.

Yea I was just dreading getting a second set of tires since I don't have a lot of room to store them..
