I agree and I hope that you don't have to replace the boot at this early stage. I purchased the entire kit, but used the two ear clamps only.
As you already knew, the blue nylon coating (glidecote) on the splines of our Ranger's driveshaft (manufactured by Dana Spicer) prevents spline wear and extends spline life. It also helps reduce vibration. Any blue nylon coating that has been running dry w/o grease will quickly wear and lead to vibration and/or clunks. That's why I tried to lube it before driving a 5,000-mile round trip starting this coming Friday.

Shouldn’t that be something under warranty? The dealership should do this?

@Ranger33566 I was wondering if our driveshafts had the coating on them. Glad they do. No complaints with the truck so far besides the slip-bump.

@Michelle Yes, the dealer can do this. I only have 2000 miles on my truck. I just prefer to do it myself.

Yes, the dealer should fix this and most of driveshaft related issues are supposed to be covered under Ford powertrain warranty (5 years/60,000 miles)

I want to confirm that lubing the slip yoke resolved the clunk issue with "my truck". I lubed the slip yoke at 7760 miles and my truck is now at 8847 miles. I haven't experienced any clunks when coming to complete stops from various speed. Hopefully, it will stay this way for a while until the slip yoke needs to be lubed again.

I am going to give this a try too. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I’ll be taking it back to the dealership and this time I will be sure and drive the vehicle with a tech in the truck... last time I took it in they said “we couldn’t hear any noise”. Ugggg.
Michelle, did this problem ever get resolved for you?

It seems to have become less frequent. I’m going to give it a few weeks and if it’s not completely resolved I will take back to dealership. I only have 1200 miles on it and I’m waiting to take it in so I can address any other issues that may arise. ??‍♀
Figure I can limit my visits this way.
They repaired the oil leak. So I’m waiting to see if I have any other issues.

Hoping it will resolve itself over next few miles and no other issues pop up. I have been very fortunate so far with my Ranger... 30,000 miles trouble free. Hopefully, this will be a small blip for you and you can enjoy your Ranger for many thousands of miles to come.:)

I am experiencing the same issue when coming to a stop and on light acceleration. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the problem. I removed the spline and lubed it, but it did not correct the problem. I hope Ford is monitoring this thread because something must be done to fix this defect.

Did you mention this group discussion and how there are many others having the same issue? I plan on mentioning this when I take my truck back in for the second time for the same issue

I told the dealer, but they did not seem to care.

From what I’m reading on this post it seems to be the slip yoke?

I bought the Ford boot repair kit and lubed the slip yoke, but it did not resolve the issue.
Wow! This is nuts that no one ...even dealerships can’t figure out the cause! ??

I'm curious if CRC brake grease would work better/longer for the slip joint. It has moly, ptfe, and graphite and is designed for sliding surfaces.
