My bet these are going overseas. There are break off bolts you can buy with the same thread pitch And length to avoid all this.
I like what RP has to say about this.
I think that's what they do with the stolen cell phones. The can't activate a reported phone here but I guess the phone id data base isn't connected world wide.

Only problem with that thought is our taillights don't fit ROW Rangers. And they don't have BLIS either.

There are anti theft/anti tamper bolts available. They simply require a specialty bit to tighten or remove them.
Remember, things don't have to be theft proof, just inconvenient as hell. Most thieves are looking for a quick score. If it costs too much time or work, they'll move on.

A little unrelated but my Lariat with Blis has a small crack in it from a rock.

I wanted to replace it, I don’t think I will now if they are that expensive!
While the lens is still expensive, the BLIS module inside the taillight is the more expensive part. You can detach that from your current taillight and install it in your replacement lens. At least you can from my experience with the F-150.

Edit: Confirmed from my picture during my lights install... that circled silver thing is the BLIS module, and it just bolts into the lens housing.

Don't know....maybe a guy that got drunk an backed into something an broke a tail light has to steal one so his old lady doesn't kick his a$$. I saw a news report about Portland an how ramped car theft is there an they pretty much chop them on the street an leave the stripped car on the street.

It's almost enough for me to fit the truck in the garage.....but I'm not parking the Harley in the snow.

could get a Harley locker though

All joking aside even though I would have no problem supporting chopping of thieves hands and then shipping them off to Gujarat to work the salt fields.

I would think replacing the necessary hardware with security Torx would be a fine solution. Or a new type of BLIS tail light. "Ballistic Larceny Interrupter Semtex".

At $3.5K I think the auto body shop made out with a pretty penny, glad to hear you have good insurance and it was covered. I was in my local Ford dealer picking up my truck from service and someone was getting their taillight replaced that was broken or faulty, and Ford said it was $1,200. Still very expensive for a taillight due to the blind spot detection system inside.

Thieves suck, I am sorry you had to go through this.

How they gonna work a salt mine without hands? Since the thieves are all in CA already I'd put them to work stomping grapes. No hands needed!

Would red Locktite help? Not knowing to heat the bolt up might cause it to strip.
