Hey All

Unfortunately the more I drive this thing, the less I like it. Have brought into ford a couple of times as I keep experiencing the same issue (Ford cannot replicate Unfortunately).

I step on the gas AND THE TRUCK DOES NOT MOVE! at all:shock: this has happened a few times, is corrected by getting off the accelerator and then back on. I suspect this is transmission related, ford keeps telling me "that's how they all are". My folks 20yr old minivan shifts better.

The dealer also had to fix two critical bolts holding the front bumper on as there was a loud squeak each time a door was closed. Apparently they were "like that from the factory".

I also all.of a sudden have a loud squeak/squeal intermittent while driving...thought it was fan belt but does not seem to be isolated to just when the fan is on.

Why is a brand new truck (17k km's) that has been babied squealing like 2003 dodge neon!?

My 16 Focus ST was the best car I've owned but this Ranger is feeling more and more like a lemon.

Thoughts/Please someone convince me to keep it...I really do want to love truck but she isn't. making it easy

So something to understand with turbocharged vehicles(new ones especially) you will experience a thing called turbo lag. With the newer vehicles the computer does try to get things a bit more precise but as you already have experienced it is still a little off. Even with my Ranger if i just stomp on it it takes a second to start going. If I roll into it the truck becomes a bit more responsive. I had similar things happen on my 1983 280ZX that I had. Just remember that with a turbocharged vehicle this is going to be normal.

What the Op described is not Turbo Lag, sounds like the Tranny is not engaging for some reason. OP, does it do it in 'S' as well as 'D'? If you accelerate slowly does it do it? There are other threads to address the drive line sequel that others have had.

I wish it was turbo lag, but this feels very different...

I usually drive it in Sport as the tranny feels so sloppy in drive..however, I think in these cases I was probably in drive

The 10R80 is a whole different animal compared to other transmissions and I wont argue that. What I am curious about is when you step on it(and it doesnt move) is the engine increasing RPM? That's the important part here

Good question, could be throttle response issue, or something with the drive-by-wire system.

The drive by wire is what I was talking about(even though i wasnt clear). That is why I'm suspecting it is considered a normal deal

Why would you want to be talked into keeping something that you aren't happy with and giving you troubles? Sell it or trade it in and get something else.

Hmmm, my 21 XLT is very fast to respond to pedal pressure, no hesitation at all.

It really depends on what you do. If left in drive and you dont preload the torque converter(holding the brake and gas at the same time) but slam the gas as the light turns green you will have that second of lag. Even with my Livernois tow tune it does this. If I ease into it the truck respnds normally will little lag. If preloading the torque converter or in sport mode you wont see the issue as much.

Is there a CEL? Sounds like an electronic throttle control issue to me if the RPM’s aren’t increasing. If they are and it’s not moving, I suspect a trans/converter issue.

Seems less transmisison and more throttle body related. A bad throttle position sensor, or an entire faulty TB unit.

Just trying to understand what you are experiencing when you are saying the truck doesn’t move. Does it not start to roll when you release the brake? Like what is normal for a automatic transmission. Does the engine rev but it doesn't take off, like it's in neutral? No this does not sound normal. You say you baby the truck, so I assume you are not going WOT when this happens.

As far as the squealing goes when while your driving does it happen? At a steady speed, accelerating, slowing down, in a certain speed range, turning, up hill? Could be many things, bearing(s), brake backing plate, even transmission. Need more details. Can you repeat it. If so make sure you go on test ride with tech to show him.

When and if this happens again, pay attention to RPM and gear. I've experienced a "slip" in 1st gear on my truck a few times.

1sr gear RPMs increase slowly and somewhat jerkily, truck moves forward but barely, then truck shifts into 3rd and it starts moving normally. It's like the TC isn't locking up or something. It hasn't happened in a while.

The other one I've experienced is when the truck bucks forward in 1st as if the accelerator was an ON/OFF switch. That one hasn't happened in a while either.

If I were you, I'd do what I'm doing: if Ford can't accept their product isn't working perfectly and refuses to fix it, stop worrying about it or sell it. Sorry to be a raincloud.

Hi Paul,

You need to take this truck to another dealer that will determine what trouble codes are in the ECU...most of what you describe will show as a trouble code... Surprised you do not have a MIL on the dash indicating trouble... MIL is Malfunction Indicator Light.

They are NOT all like this. You need a dealer that is willing to work with you. I sense poor dealer/customer relations with the current dealer.

Good Luck,
Phil
