Started Planning May Road Trip - Driftless Area Wisconsin- Seeking Info!

Well, started planning the next road trip. Looks like a buddy and I are going to camp and fly fish for a week in the Wisconsin Driftless area. About 800 miles one way for me. Anyone with knowledge regarding primitive campsites to truck camp please speak up. I know better than to ask locals regarding fishing information

Came across some youtube fly fishing videos and it was my first exposure to this area. It looks absolutely amazing. Some of the prettiest farms I've ever seen with amazing small trout streams. Looking forward to it.

Any info greatly appreciated regrding the area. Probably looking to camp in the Westby / Viroqua areas.

Made the drive yesterday. 13 hours. Uneventful drive. Made 22.6 MPG with 2 dudes and a loaded up truck. Still impressed with the gas mileage.

trip got eventful after I we arrived. Too late to check in at campground. Found out I forgot the tent poles for my buddy’s tent. Severe thunderstorms with hail and high wind. Said screw it and camped at a local hotel. Picking up tent poles today. ????

Countryside here is amazing. Couple pics from county park we planned on camping at first night. Fishing starts today between thunderstorms!

Had Monday waiting for storms to subside and finally got to a good camping spot and got in a little fishing in the afternoon. Started storming again at 3am this morning and hasn’t let up. Tornado warnings in effect. Get a 4 hour break before next round. Might get in a few casts today.

I'm Northeast of you in the Fox valley. Sounds like the next wave will be nasty. High winds, hail and possible tornados. We're supposed to get it later this evening. I would not want to be in a tent.

On the good side you are in a beautiful part of the state. Where the glaciers didn't scrub it flat.

How you get a chance to catch a few more trout between storms.

Yeah, rained out today. Hunkered down at camp now waiting for the next big wave about 6pM until 8. Wednesday and Thursday look good if rivers aren’t blown out. Last night buddy got up at 3am and slept in the front seat of my truck. His tent wasn’t hacking it in that craziness. At least the severe threat tonight has narrowed from a 4 hour window

Last night buddy got up at 3am and slept in the front seat of my truck. His tent wasn’t hacking it in that craziness. At least the severe threat tonight has narrowed from a 4 hour window

Today was more like it! Great weather and even better fishing. Fished Rullands Coulee and killed the browns. Even better weather expected Thursday.

Amazing weather and fished two more Driftless Creeks. Even caught a wild 15” brown trout in a city park! Making plans for another trip up here. Bad weather stole about 2 days from us on this trip!?????

Overall a great stay and amazing fly fishing opportunities. Heading for central Michigan in the early AM before the next bout of severe storms hits the area about 8. Also have to stock up on Wisconsin cheese on the way out.

It was a wrap last night. 2200 miles. Uneventful trip regarding the Ranger. Ended up a hair over 22 miles a gallon that included about two hours to go 60 miles. I hatetraffic. need to plan to hit major metro areas at about 2am I think.
