I hit the ASS
I had to just stare as this thread for a while and ponder the meaning. ?

I got one of these myself and haven't had to deal with it since '19. And I'm glad. I've seen vehicles that have the ASS left on for a few years and they start to get "aggressive" via loud and jerky starts, like the engine and car shakes and the starter gets gear noise. They just don't fire up smoothly at starts anymore. There is absolutely nothing good about ASS.

I got a tailgate light bar that plugs into the 4-pin trailer plug and that disabled the A.S.S.

I cant remember the last time that the truck ass shut off the engine. At least a year. Take it to the dealer? NOT

I swear I thought that was a Battlestar Galactica reference, I still do really ...
I was going to use 'masses' but the word play was more effective.

Just think, we are an awesome group overall....... :)

As a side note, I recall the federally mandated, 1 year only (1974) 'Seatbelt Starter Interlock System'. Basically, the driver (and front passenger) couldn't start the car unless the front seatbelts were fastened. Everyone hated and bypassed it.

Today, I think it's a cool 'period piece'. I were to buy a 1974 car today, I would want a working Seatbelt Starter Interlock System. This was before motorized seatbelts and airbags....

Yeah, it's winter weather that does them in. I went through three of them on my old Sport Trac and none lasted longer than a year. This one has had no issues and I've had it for almost a year. Wife got it for me for my birthday last year but if she'd asked what I wanted I'd have told her the Raptor grille lights from Stage 3 Motorsports. I don't remember the brand name but I know she got it on Amazon for about $90-$100.

just odd , 4000 miles , half tow mode half sport , maybe 100 miles in D. , did it once in tow mode , way back when I fist got it , and yesterday ... and every time I start it , I hit the ASS and the TOW buttons at the same time , automatically, preflight... perhaps if I take it to the dealer he will exterminate this gremlin , should be easy to find , it's done it twice now in 5 months... lemon law ??
It has to be taken to a dealer and the problem documented to not be solved numerous times before the Lemon Law kicks in.

I was kidding sir , give me all the "lemon" rangers , ill make lemonade...
That's the right attitude.

I've told the story before of my 2005 Mustang GT. Battery kept going dead, sometimes within 24 hours. Previous owner was heartbroken as it was the first car he had ever custom ordered. Gave up and parked in his climate controlled garage, covered.

Dealers fired the Parts Cannon several times to no avail. Ford issued a service bulletin on the issue - few read them apparently. I decided to look through them, found only one for my issue that affected small number of cars scattered across the first three production years of the S197.

A simple reset procedure and it worked. Another owner may have attempted to sue Ford or collect under some kind of lemmon law..... :(

I remember that also.
If I remember correctly, many of us didn't wear our seatbelts back then, so we would just leave them buckled behind us all the time.

If that's all it takes, then doh.
Yep. I learned it way back in the day - the vets here recommended it and it's the simplest solution for when I don't want it on for more than a single trip. Usually I leave it on but when I want it off, I plug that little light in and no more ASS.
