Eventually all vehicles will be self driving. As to whether it happens while I'm still alive and care remains to be seen. When you consider how far these systems have come in less than a decade, I think they will be here sooner than later. I personally love to drive and like most drivers think I'm exceptionally skilled at it lol. However, having spent the first 15 years of adulthood fixing and selling cars and the following 15 years pulling humans out of wrecks, I can say that in my experience most people on the road in this country are a flat menace to themselves and everyone around them and we'd all be better off of they were being driven by a computer.

That new GMC Sierra commercial where they start clapping while driving really made me realize what a stupid and useless feature it is. I don't need to play Pat A Cake when I'm driving
agreed.
i like driving, it is still fun most of the time. i guess if i had a mini van or econo car it would not be lol.

I've come to hate just about every GMC commercial, and that one is particularly stupid.

If it loads and unloads itself, I just might consider it. Otherwise, I’ll just keep enjoying the drive. ?

lots of accidents and deaths are caused by "distracted driving" aka doing everything but paying attention to driving including : updating social media, snap chat, selfies, ordering food and in general being an ass hat. so instead of designing cars that would address this problem the world has decided to make cars a rolling video game / theater with touch screens and wifi bluetooth and whatever "features" i do not need or use 98% of the time. We are dumb people with "smart devices". sad. makes me wanna have my own smart device, with a nice red button. when i push the button whoever is near me in traffic that is being an ass or playing with the phone etc. - would have the car they are in instantly blow every single fuse, relay, tire and engine. paper weight it. id love that so much. :) it would be like a public service. the satisfaction of sudden wake up to reality followed by bewilderment on the faces would be so priceless. if only...
couple years ago a state officer pulled up behind me on the grass next to I20. he wanted to know why i was in the grass and what the problem was. i told him everything was fine i had to check my email and send some messages for work so i pulled off the road. he looked shocked smiled and said you have a good day and he drove on.

my sister used to commute into Boston everyday. (pre pandemic) a 35 minute drive on the weekends would take 60-90 minutes during morning and evening commutes.

She repeatedly stated she would never have a self driving vehicle. when I pointed out a fully self driving vehicle could mean she could leave the house and get 90 minutes of work done prior to showing up to the office she became more receptive to the idea.

pandemic work from home, means she goes into the office once a week. she doesn't give a shit about hte commute anymore.

It's bad enough letting my wife drive the ranger scares the heck out of me
you know normal every day driving doesn't bother me. we had to go out just after a snow storm and the side streets where still covered and the back end started sliding and I asked if she had ever driven rear wheel drive in the snow and she went Since when do trucks come in rear wheel drive?

that quarter mile scared the crap out of me.

We then had a long discucssion on rear wheel drive, front wheel drive all wheel drive, and 4x4 and I flat out never told her how to engage the 4x4 on the ranger. I don't want her to engage it and then break it on a dry parking lot doing a tight turn. (her suv is AWD and that is for a reason)

Think we'll ever see a self-driving Ranger? If Tesla can do it, Ford should be able to.

Wouldn't be much fun, would it:facepalm:?
No, it wouldn't be much fun.

But, after daily encountering so many folks that would rather check their cellphones than pilot their 2 ton piece of steel down the highway at 65mph, 3 feet from me, I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea.

It's getting pretty scary how distracted some folks are!

Just my $.02

If they become safe driving im choosing the absolute cheapest vehicle possible. Because i wouldnt care and would just sleep. Basically it would be like public transportation, could care less about how it drives looks etc
