My Ranger never had running boards. When I installed my sliders I don't remember seeing any holes on my Ranger in the cab floor where steps would have been placed? No steps... no holes?

I'd suggest you buy some "never seize".. glob some on the bolts and put them back in.

Without steps there are little plastic plugs in the holes from the factory. I took mine out when I installed factory running boards.

Did your truck have the gray sprayed on undercoating? Was the plug under the undercoating or were they installed after the undercoating?

Really... that's weird. So the grey looking undercoat in the above photo... your truck didn't have that?
I'd have to crawl under again and look, it didn't look like anything other than maybe primed metal. And the plugs were on top of it.

It's not undercoating per se, it's the textured plastic stuff present on the bottom of the side panels. On my truck it is not present where the OEM steps would be attached (like they masked off that area at the factory) and there is an unpainted plastic plug over the corresponding holes.

Edit to add: you can actually see this in the picture above. A little below the "Item 3" label there's a dark grey band across the width of the bottom of the body panel with two black circles. That's the non-textured area and the plugs.

Got a question for those that had steps prior to installing the sliders. In prep for the delivery of my sliders I pulled my factory steps off the truck today. Once you removed the bolts that hold the steps on, did you put them back in or do something else to fill the holes in the body? I was thinking of just reinstalling the bolts to prevent water intrusion. If you never had factory steps how did Ford fill the holes for the bolts that hold the factory steps on?

Thanks for the help
SafetyDan and I transferred my original steps to his truck, and if I remember correctly the factory plugs are just ribbed style plastic clips. I have a box of giant assorted pop clips and found 12 that fit in mine and used thoughs. I had been offroading and what not before without plugging them, though.

The factory holds are covered with plastic clips on trucks that don't come with factory steps

Got mine installed the other day (except the hole I have to drill, need a better bit). Install was pretty easy once I figured out which slider was left and which was right. I had previously removed my factory steps so just had to get them in place and bolt on. Took about an hour to do the whole thing. This was one of my easier (smoother) installs. Used 2 jack stands to hold the slider in place and then just started sticking bolts in. Look great on the truck, and add confidence on the trail.

I had to take a minute to figure out left from right too. Figured it was just me.

The Shrokworks Rock Sliders are great. But folks that live in areas with ice need to be aware that there are disadvantages to having frame mounted sliders -vs- body mounted running boards. Check out this link.

I feel like the build up of ice is because of the treadplate itself and not the slider. I'd be curious if the sliders without the treadplate wouldn't have the same problem?
