2021 XLT FX4 southbound on Chapel HIlls. Chevy Express van northbound on Chapel Hills makes a left turn, does not yield right of way.

The Ranger collapsed completely in the front. The gaps between door and fender remain as they were from factory. All air bags deployed. The driver (my wife) is very sore and bruised but relatively unharmed considering the nearly instant halt from 35 MPH to 0 MPH.

The other driver's insurance company was very skeptical about who was at fault. Dashcam video tells the story:

wow, the video says it all!....I'm glad you and your wife are ok and give her a huge hug and be thankful for each other! The guy wasn't paying attention and obviously at fault. This makes me want to get a dash cam ASAP!....what kind of dash cam was it and how was it mounted/and was it hardwired?.....the truck can be replaced and yes it did it's job!...

Thanks all for the kind comments. The wife (boss) is doing fine. Already has her eye on a new Ranger given the outstanding job it did in saving her life. (She just discovered the Tremor...oh boy).

I can vividly recall the devastating crashes of the 1970's wheeled tanks that did not have crumple zones or air bags or maybe even safety glass and the occupants were likely not restrained and mom and dad smoked ciggies with the windows up.

As a long time dashcam user I have learned this about them:

1) Don't trust a suction cup mount - it will fail on impact or on hot days, or ... Instead double stick tape the mount to the windshield. It's easily removed with a spudger.

2) Set the time for recordings as long as you can. It's amazing how often the important part occurs exactly in the 2 seconds between recordings. Mine two cams have a max of 5 minute recording time.

3) Check your dashcam frequently. Make sure it's working before you need it.

The cam in the truck is the below AKASO V1 that I've had for some years. It's not top of the line but is HD. Have to manually connect the cam itself via USB cable to the computer to get the videos off (not wifi). In the Ranger - it was very easy to route the power wire from the 12V accessory outlet up to the rear-view via under dash and inside of pillar cover. Didn't need to remove any interior trim pieces to get it routed.

glad the "boss" is okay!...that's the most important thing!

The insurance company will hopefully treat you right given the current car/truck market!...with that being said, for sure get the TREMOR!!......rides great and capable of anything!.....I have the Lariat Tremor cuz I wanted LED headlights and pushbutton start but the XLT is just as great and probably real close in cost to your FX4.....rides great and it's my "work" truck carrying roofing products (I own a roofing company)......and it'll haul whatever I put in it.......I've never taken it off road but I can if I need too....LOL

and thanks for the insight about the dash cam......I think I'll get the Blackvue DR900X-1CH Plus 4K UHD Dashcam just based on my research last night.......seems like a good one with great reviews....

Another thing I have learned is how much I am going to miss seat (or ideally seat and mirror) memory.

Having been down for a few days and likely another few weeks, my Boss has forgotten she owns a Highlander and has everything adjusted on (was my, now our) Ranger for her 5’ 100lb frame.

When I am back fully operational, going back and forth adjusting everything manually is going to get old. I am also going to have to start using gas stabilizer in her Highlander, cause it is going to be a tank of gas every six months for that Hybrid for all the use it is going to get. :(

Thinking ahead is hard, but important when choosing essential versus nice to have options. ;)

i loved the slow mo and all you see is the passengers cell phone in their hand. they never lost their grip.
My favorite frame from that video is the last one, just before impact. At that exact moment in time, all was well. Things changed drastically but a brief moment later.

All frames show the green light - as green as it can be.

Glad the boss is doing well. Ranger’s rule for crash protection from every instance I have seen so far.

The video footage is everything. I can just picture this guy explaining his version of the event. Then when the boss says I think the person you hit has a case against us, and driver is swearing up and down they’re lying? Boss man says, explain this then and runs the video. All of a sudden you can hear a pin drop. Boss says, now who’s lying again!?

I realize the video seems conclusive, but the only negative I see is that the video didn't appear to record speed. My dashcam records date, time, location and speed. I used it not long ago to verify a speeding ticket I got.

Glad to hear that the wife is ok, and thanks for the feedback on camera options. I've been thinking of getting one for a while, so this is useful info.

Wow, what a bad lick. Like everyone said, glad your wife is ok. I was with my nephew about 4 years ago, just drove back into town waiting at a red light. BAM , some guy plowed into the back of us, I mean hard. So I'm sitting in the car waiting on the cops, the jerk that hit us came up to my window mouthing off "what's wrong your hurt, I'm not hurt" being a jerk to me and my nephew. It ticked me off so much much that when I left the drs office I called a lawyer. I wasn't going to, but he ticked me off, now I'm glad I did. I don't know how long it was after the accident I started having really bad pain on my right side . Sciatic nerve pain. I had felt something the day of in my neck and back, wasn't that bad, but as time went by it got bad. I want to say about a year later I started having to go to physical therapy. I did get some money. Not a lot but enough to to cover my Dr bills and have a little left over. I've had accidents in the past, never got a lawyer. This time I'm glad I did.

Glad she is good.

I will say this is why I don't change lanes before an intersection, I bet the van drive saw her left turn signal from that lane change and thought it was to turn left at that light and then focused on the car in the right lane to go as it passed. Van driver still at fault.
