In the Detroit area I took my ‘19 to a Krown rust prevention shop and have been happy with the results so far; admittedly it’s only been a few years. It’s a more intrusive process (small holes to access the A/C pillars, Ned/behind the taillights, and door frame). Cheap relative to the potential for Michigan salt corrosion.

Michigan has "Rust."
Wisconsin has "pre-salvage reclamation."

Well hell I feel better the little bit of rust that I patched up isn't nearly as bad as others. Though I regularly powerwashed my underbelly every time they laid salt

I will take my hurricanes over long winters. Tomorrow I will get under the truck and take some pics. My truck sees a lot of action at the beach and saltwater. I know there is rust.

Pics to come tomorrow.

This is a super valuable thread for people living in rust prone areas. Even though I avoid the Northeast winters by living in Utah, I get the full brunt of Utah winters and am pretty sure the local municipality uses salt. The "canyon trucks" owned by the ski area are all pretty dang rusty. Luckily I don't have to drive in it too much but now I know the areas to look out for

Similar results from the Gulf Coast with many trips to the beaches of the Texas Gulf Coast and direct exposure to salt water. Meaning driving through some salt water to get to the good fishing spots.

The MI road salt appears to be a little bit worse in causing rust.

Come to Massachusetts, if the salt doesn’t get you the pot holes will!

Learned this from my grandfather an old Navy officer. They would wire brush the rust spots then treat it with naval jelly. (You can buy it still today) let it sit and then wash it off. This has two effects. First is it neutralizes the surface rust. Then what it does at the same time is passivate the base metal. (Lifts off free iron)This will keep the rust or oxidation process to start again. Then paint it with something like POR15 for additional protection. Shouldn’t see rust in that spot again for a very long time. Navy still uses this process today to keep our ship fleet from becoming rust buckets.

I rust proof all winter vehicles. Maybe on the weekend I'll take a few pics to show
after 2 year winters here in Quebec & what rustproofing does.
