We did a 200 mile trip yesterday in our FX4 and averaged 27.7 mpg. It has about 5,500 miles on the odometer... and when use 91 octane Shell gas.

Have 450 miles on it all city driving; very gingerly; no mods. Only getting 13.5 mpg consistently. This thing is a gas pig! Things better improve or it's getting traded in for something else.

do you have auto start/stop enabled?
what gas are you running?

that number is incredibly low. i got 13 in my 77 monte carlo... hell, even my dads 91 suburban got better than that.
something is way out of whack there.

450 miles is hardly a huge sample size. Especially with a brand new truck and all city driving. The thing hasn't even been broken in yet. I would give it at least a few thousand miles of mixed driving to really get a good idea of where the mileage is at. Sure, 13.5 is disappointing, but the situation isn't really ideal. I also don't know much about Reno, the aggressiveness of city traffic, the type of terrain, the type of wind, etc. All of which have substantial affects on this powertrain. Some people just live in places where they can't get good mileage. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

I started with premium and after about six months, switched to regular. There was no realistic change in the mileage output. I only run premium when I'm towing now.
Same here. I can notice the improvement only when towing.

Maybe altitude? Anyone else at altitude getting terrible mileage? Reno is a about '4500.

i can agree with that. i didnt take in to account the low mileage. what @Arch Stanton said makes a lot of sense too. turbos arent a big fan of really high altitudes. not enough air to compress.

id like to see how reno traffic compares to Dallas traffic

We live at 8,200 feet. "Trip 1" setting on our truck shows 21 mpg average, over 5,500 miles.

It states right in the Owners Manual that the first 1,000 miles is designated as "Breaking In".

That being said, our Ranger from the day it was new never dropped below 19 mpg.

In the city, I get a consistent 20.5 MPG. Best I've gotten on the highway was 26.7 but that included about 50 miles of city stop and go traffic.

I saw my local QT offers ethanol free fuel, any MPG advantages to running ethanol free ?
