The thread isn't about whether you think a manual transmission is better, or whether you think paddle shifters are worth it.

Paddle shifters are offered on all variety of Ford vehicles, whether their intended use is sporty or not.
This is about adding that feature to the USA Ranger.

Stop being averse to technology and convenience.
Ok sport.

This thread was about whether paddle shifters were worth it more than a year before you joined.

Settle down.

Recent F150 and Explorer wheels bolt on. Some Explorer wheels appear to even have the same connector, although pinouts might be different, mixed information, haven't dove too deep.

Additional complication is the adaptive cruise control, and whether there is a difference with the button functions on the Ranger wheel vs other models that also support adaptive.

Pictured, 2020 Explorer steering wheel in first three pics, same connector, paddles, bolts up, but Ranger does not have the additional connector/pins.

Fourth pic is a 2020 Ranger.

Ah, so you're 70 years old... Makes more sense now, Dad.

Good to see these forums are alive with helpful folks. Thanks for policing my desire to push the platform forward. ? ?‍♂

You can't be that dense can you?

I mean, even an imbecile could see the badge was for you.

It's an internet forum. People are going to chime in with their opinion. That's life.

Push the platform forward? Really?

It's a truck. 90% of members here include stickers and floor mats on their mod list.

Hi KJ,

I am embarrassed that I cannot remember where I was heading with this....ArrrrrrrrrG! I think it might have been on the 2nd Gen Econoline where I drove a Green and Yellow two tone to a meeting. It was an automatic. Then in the afternoon it was a Three on the Tree manual....Turns out there were two painted exactly alike and more strange was the door key fit both units... Think there was a post on that story....but now the bench seat...I am blanking on that????

Best,
Phil

No worries. It was a few days longer than tomorrow and thought I'd take a shot. ;)

I want to revive this thread and take a crack at this mod. One of the features I miss in my previous Audi was the paddle shifters.

In looking at the Explorer wheel (2019 shown).

It appears to be really close to the Ranger, obviously the air bag doesn't transfer, but how about the buttons and wiring harness and dremel some holes in the back cover. Can it be this easy? Run the needed wiring UP/DOWN/COMMON to the center console.

I hope someone can make this a reality..... I dislike the button on the shifter soooooo much! lol

I've had paddles in a few other fords and I wish the engineers had added them as an option in the Rangers.

No compatibility other than superficial looks. That's why I ended up doing my heated steering wheel the way I did. Plus the as built is so different on some modules programming it would take a monumental effort. That's why we still haven't figured out how to change the quick flash turn count. I changed every hex on the SSCM and nothing affected that one.

That’s it. I’m going to swap the steering wheel out of my Passat and see how it goes. Paddle shifting Ranger, here I come! ?

Looked into doing a Ranger Raptor wheel swap. Without basically getting the whole column to go with, can't be done and even going that far still might not be enough. Parts compatability is extremely small.

In another thread someone revealed that the plus and minus shift option on the center console are electronically controlled. We determine all that you really needed to add paddle shifters was to tap these two channels and a harness to wire some sort of momentary type switch (whatever shape)and some mounts that go on the column behind the wheel. This method means you can bypass having to use the steering wheel clock spring for wiring.

You can basically recreate this whole system for pennies on the dollar it appears.

I am of the opinion that the first person to come up with a production method of creating this type of kit is looking at an untapped market of cash.
