I tow my '19 Ranger behind our motorhome. Is it possible to have one of the power ports have power all the time? My auxiliary braking system for the truck needs to have power on while I am towing it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't have Forscan available to me unless I purchase it. Is this something that can be. done easily by a mechanic or a Ford dealer?

Forscan is FREE. That’s the software side. The hardware side — Will cost a few bucks for the device/cord that connects a laptop to the OBD2 port. No — A dealer won’t deviate programming from factory. You might find an independent mechanic that will. Frankly it’s easy for anyone to do.

Thanks. I'm just a little leery of doing this myself.

It's a pain, but you're probably better off running a wire from the motorhome to avoid the really bad outcome of running down the battery

I already have a trickle charge coming from the motorhome to the truck's battery while it is connected through the electrical connection for the brake and running lights on the truck so there won't be a problem with discharging the truck battery.

I ran the wires for this to the battery, with a fuse in between, and put the outlet behind the center console. Constant power at all times. I also have a trickle charger running from the motorhome while towing to keep the truck batteries at full charge.

That looks like the best way for me to go.

"with a fuse in between" was the most important part of what he said, just want to make sure anyone reading this in the future doesn't accidentally leave that part out!

Hi Gary,

My concern is that the fuse is way too far from the battery connection. It should be within a few inches of the battery connection which I can not see for sure but appears to way down "in line" from the battery. I made my own using a fuse at the battery connection and fused at 15 amps and 16 gauge wire. Works for my Even Brake just fine.

Best,
