Look at it again, it's not cable, it's spectra or whatever synthetic line. It doesn't do the " snapback and cut you in half " trick that cable does.
Looking at them feeding the line out, you are right that it is synthetic line.

I still don't think they were being cautious enough around the winch line.

Standing directly in line with the pull makes me think of a bumper or tow hook coming off, winch mount breaking, all kinds of things that could instantly become a lethal projectile.

I know the synthetic is much better at dealing with the stored kinetic energy, but Murphy's Law follows me like an obedient dog and if something did release it would aim straight for me.

Yes. My concern isn't so much with the synthetic line whipping as much as it is a tow hook or shackle flying. But good eye, @Pinepig !

Synthetic line or not, there is allot of cringe in that video. I was asking questions and talking to the screen the whole time.
Maybe their winching habits are why the one guy has a limp?

This past Saturday, I went with some local GA Ranger owners on a trail ride. We started on Tray Mountain and then went a little further north and hit Popcorn Creek Trail, near Charlie's Creek Trail (for those who know the area).

Tray Mountain is a well maintained trail that is accessible, for the most part, by regular family cars. We were a little (very little) concerned because we had heard of two vehicles becoming very stuck on the trail during the week. Like this guy:

In retrospect, after having driven this very mudhole, and none of our trucks getting stuck (11 in all), I think if this guy had stayed in the ruts he would've been fine, but he probably bottomed out by taking the line he did. At the same spot, the same week, we had a vehicle that probably should've driven around. HAHAHA
stopped by a creek for lunch and it was absolutely perfect! It was nice and cool under the trees and the sound from the creek was great! I'm going to definitely be dragging my wife out there for a picnic!

The second trail we hit, Popcorn Creek Trail, was a little more technical and also way more overgrown than when I last drove it, last year. About halfway through this trail, it opened up with a really heavy thunderstorm that made everything more fun! We had one vehicle suffer damage at the very end; his alternator ate it during a creek crossing to get off the trail. Luckily for him, he was able to make it home and actually cleaned the alternator and it seems to be working again.

Here are some of my videos from Popcorn Creek Trail (nothing that awesome):

And pics from that day...

That looks like a great day. Mud in the engine bay is beautiful, warms my heart, lol.

Also looks like a good mix of trucks, with some appropriate recovery gear for the entourage. I love going out with a mix of new and old, watching the fear turn to fun, and being able to bring everyone home at days end. Awesome!

It was actually really cool watching everyone show up with their own take on putting together a Ranger to their tastes. And yes, the fear to fun factor is NEAT!

Took a trip this weekend with some Overland Bound members and @Napolito. Had a blast though, it was a bit more difficult that I would have chosen. The stock FX4 front suspension has. to. go. I don't mind the ride on road, but it's so bouncy offroad that I smacked down on things just because of the softness. Guess a lift/firmer suspension is on my list.

Yup. I don't know exactly what Ford was thinking with the stock suspension, the non-FX4 is extra wallowy on the road and just garbage off. I've taken quite a lot of dings from it dropping too hard.

Went 4WDing in West Cape Howe in Western Australia. Some of the most remote and best beaches in Australia. I was out on my own and unfortunately got a bit stuck.

Nice pictures.

Everyone who ventures off the beaten track will get "a bit stuck" from time-to-time. Making memories.

I'm sorry you got stuck but I'm INSANELY JEALOUS of you! I love Australia! I was in Sydney for the 100th Anzac Day and had such a great time. My dream is to do a 4x4 rental trip to Fraser Island.
