They should really think a little more careful about throwing the R word around like that for a simple amendment.. ?

Oh well!

That's it, I've had it, I'm trading this thing in now! A recall, I can't believe it!

I hope everyone knows I'm joking.
Please ensure you remove the tailgate dampener so we can razz the next new guy. LOL. You would think Ford would clarify what is going on in plain English to stop the problems for the dealers. Instead we get a cryptic message to contact your dealer.

Hi Glynn,

I am mystified why this approach by Ford as well. Probably a regulatory loop hole to not have to recall the vehicle... Or to save mailing costs or to have the dealer do the insert so it gets done and not put in the trash....Anyway...mystery to me..

Sounds like an great way to get you to a dealer and, “why your here...have you seen the new 2021 Ranger? Let’s look at one and go for a drive while they print the page off.”

"Owner's manual insertto be mailed" think we'll get it before the election??

Hi Folks,

A Field Service Bulletin advises the dealers on vehicles that have a particular malady of a fix that the dealer might apply. Not a Recall or a Technical Service Bulletin. Mostly just an FYI. I agree it is a page insert into this horribly edited Owner's Manual.

Hi Galvir,

Nope on the worry. If you have push button start, then this feature might get in the way if you try to update your Sync and need to idle the engine for over 2 hours to get the darn software to load. You have to disable the feature before you do an extended idle or the engine shuts off. This is not the only miss in this owner's manual.

I have it too. I have no push button start.
My problem sync not updated and my map update not done. I guess if I don't need to travel, I won't need it.

One of the items in the Maintenance Readout screen, is this one. I have almost 2,000 miles on the ODM, and the DIST_AEIS reads "0"!

So is this to say that XLTs (with no push-button start) also have the automatic idle shutoff BUT no way to disable it?

I couldn't find a way of disabling it in the normal menu system, and didn't know for sure if it was there, so I just gave up and drove the truck for 1-1/2 hours while I did the maps update. It would be nice to know for sure either way for next time. (maybe it can be disabled with Forscan, but I didn't think to check at the time).

Probably because you haven't had an automatic engine idle shutdown.

I had a yamaha motorcycle that said something in the manual like "engine will automatically shut off after 30 consecutive minutes of idling".

So what did I do? I went out and idled it for 30 min and sure enough the thing shut off in 30 min.

Hi Phil,
From other posts, it appears that maybe non-push-button vehicles also might have this auto-shutoff feature?? I couldn't find a way of disabling it so I wasn't sure it was there or not. It looks like maybe Forscan can tell you, though, but I'm not near the truck right now to play with it and check.

The solution to this would be for modules that are being updated to report that to the system, and then this auto-shutoff feature could be temporarily disabled without any user intervention. That requires different design groups to all be in communication with each other though.

It seems like Ford didn't expect USB updates by owners to be that common. OTA updates don't seem to require this much hand-holding.
