These last few posts remind me, what ever happened to @TheMarkP and his tailgate damper? I was 100% in on supporting his venture and he totally ghosted a bunch of us.

Indeed! he seemed to disappear from the radar...

They ended up cancelling his account and were going to make him register as a vendor. I know he re-signed up with a different screen name and only made a couple post. He said he got tied up with other stuff and then by the time he got things going DeeZee/ Ford already had theirs out. It's to bad because I was also holding out waiting for his then he disappeared and I ended up with the one from Ford.

Bummers...though I can see the forum administrators point...maybe he's working on a hidden design, ala F-150???
I could not believe this technology when I first saw it on a Tundra, looking high and low on a buddy's pickup as to where Toyota hid such a device...kinda like the Clampetts and the doorbell...

I forgot about that one lol

When I first got my Tacoma I couldn't figure out where the damper was until I looked online. I would've liked one hidden in the taillight housing like that but this one works great. I'm in/out of my bed with stuff many times during the week and the outside strut has never been a problem.

I wonder who came up with the idea first? Toyota? Ford? Chevy? Dodge?
Whoever it was, I really thought there was some kind of sorcery going on with that gate!

I'm not sure who did. My last F150 was a 2013 and it didn't have one and my 2016 Tacoma did.

My 2016 Canyon had a built-in damper. I'll be ordering one of the dampers from Ford.

I waited on Mark as long as I could, he said he thought there would be no interest in his because Ford came out with one, I told him I was still interested but that was the last I heard of him, guess he figured not many wanted one and was not worth the trouble. So I got one from Ford last week, installed in a few minutes and have one complaint, it takes to long to lower the tailgate, guess I am an impatient person.

I seldom open/close my tailgate but went to lower it the other day and bam! Damper strut had basically broken loose from the top mount.

I did the same. I'm sure DeeZee had to fulfill their initial orders from Ford before they could start selling them direct. Plus using the FordPass points the damper is free and we have them now,not another year from now.

Edit: Damn it, me thinks just entering the part number that's in the screen shot brings up the damper for the F-150. Unless it's the same....
